Its a Suzuki swift. It happened for under ten seconds and then everything came back. This was Thursday morning and has not happened since. Its a car where the key stays in drivers top pocket and the car just reads that he has it.

UFO experience?

KittenPause · 09/02/2025 15:20

Obviously get Suzuki to check it out as it's clearly some kind of malfunction

CraftyNavySeal · 09/02/2025 15:21

Take it back to Suzuki? Not sure what internet randoms are supposed to suggest

GildedRage · 09/02/2025 15:22

my first thought is an electrical issue and really an emergency.
Hopefully Suzuki can diagnose the issue.
I don’t think it’s safe to drive.

Thats what im telling him to do. His seatbelt was over the top pocket where he keeps the key fob and that could have pressed on it but i agree it needs checking out

Well that's clearly a stupid place to put the key

NormalAuntFanny · 09/02/2025 15:38

I'm not a car expert but no car's going to turn itself off because it can't briefly detect the key.

Ours beeps for instance, it would be a fantastically dangerous system to shut down a moving vehicle.

You shouldn't just hope it goes away.

A Juke I had some years ago did the same, one time on a motorway slip road. If it hadn't been a hill (so I could roll on to the hard shoulder) it could have been nasty.

My garage investigated all the obvious things but nothing came up (and bless them didn't charge me). However, the owner's friend had just bought the latest in diagnostic machines (at the time) and they were trying it out the next day so decided to test it out on my car. Whilst using the diagnostic whilst driving it, it turned out something very unusual was happening with the battery (which had previously tested as fine).

One new battery later and the car was fixed. Traded it in within the month though. Once a car let's you down like that, you'll always be nervous.

Its now been fixed. It was a loose cable which has been tightened
