I'm chatting with my husband over our vehicle tax which will be due in April 2025. We paid £240 last year and we can't figure out how much it will be this time. Our car is Nissan note N-Tec+ Auto made in 2012 and we bought in 2015.CO2 emissions is 159g/km. My husband thinks it will be £1360. Is he correct ? 😭 Please help me with this as Im not cleaver

I've just checked this for our car because I've not heard about this. It seems cars registered pre2017 aren't really affected and I'd assume your tax stays at £255. Ours stays at £35.

@StealthyBMI I'll be very surprised if my tax remains at £200 something. The older the car bigger the engine will be the most expensive I guess ?

It's all done on emissions, not engine size. As you state your emissions are 159g/km for a car first registered in 2012 then yes, I think the rate of £255 is correct.

I was just going by the emissions you said and the year, and the table quoted by the RAC on that website. Everything I've googled said it's mainly affecting new cars not old. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though. Not sure where your husband got that much higher figure from, but I'm no expert either.

Which is the same costs as the previous posters link says too.

Thank you all for your explanation. I was going to cancel our holiday for this summer if we had to pay nearly £1500. I can sleep tight from tonight again.

I was wondering if he had looked at the initial years rate, not the second year and onwards. It hasn't gone up that much.
