First Car. Help!

I am looking to buy my first car, and have no idea where to even start.

I'm late 20s, and haven't driven until now as I've been living in cities with great public transport like London.

My partner and I will be sharing the car, but it will mostly be mine. He is a giant, and I'm quite small, so a little runaround is out of the question for him, and I didn't love learning to drive in a small car with a tiny windshield.

He's suggested a Land Rover Discovery Sport as it's what he's had before and he thinks I'll enjoys bigger car to feel safer but I'm not sure. I also just can't wrap my head around paying that much, even second hand/HP.

It needs to be fuel efficient as I'll be using it to commute to London occasionally (from Hampshire).

Any ideas?

What's your budget and are you looking to buy via pcp, hp, cash or lease a vehicle.

Jaguar Land rover are terrible for reliability, many depreciate rapidly and can be difficult to obtain insurance for as they are amongst the most stolen cars in the UK. Servicing costs can also be high I would only consider one if I was extremely wealthy and would have it on lease.

If you've the budget for prestige marques and don't need serious offroad capability I'd look at an audi or bmw suv instead. Also consider a hybrid volvo xc60, super safe for a new driver, great tech and super comfy driving g position for any height.

Funny you mention the Volvo xc60, I had looked at a few and they’re more what I think work for both me and my partner.

I’m looking at max 250/300 a month, but to be honest I’d rather not spend anywhere near that, especially with a car like the discovery being so pricey insurance wise on top!
