Jannie65 · 12/01/2025 13:01

In urgent need of a new car but money is very tight. This is what i need
-maximum £11k
-automatic
-large boot
-ideally a reversing camera
-ULEZ
-low mileage as drive a lot for work
We are near London. Any suggestions of a suitable car to look for? I can only find Zafira’s in that price but no reversing camera.

You can always get a reversing camera installed.

xyz111 · 12/01/2025 17:09

I don't think you'll get many for that price with a reversing camera as it's a fairly "new" feature so only going to be on newer cars which are over £11k

I've got a Zafira and I hate it. It has cost me so much money with so many different things going wrong. I can't wait to change it.
I'm also looking for a new second hand car with a big boot on a budget.
Here's some of the cars I've been looking at. BTW I used Chat GPT to put this list together for me.

Hyundai

  1. Hyundai ix20 (2017-2019)
o A practical mini-MPV with a large boot for its size and flexible interior space. o Seats 5 but offers a spacious and versatile cabin, making it ideal for family use.
  1. Hyundai i800 (2017-2020)
o A larger MPV with seating for up to 8 passengers. While it’s quite spacious, it may feel larger than a typical family car. o Petrol models are rare, but it’s worth checking for ULEZ compliance.
  1. Hyundai Santa Fe (2017-)
o While technically an SUV, it’s more compact than many larger SUVs and offers a 7-seater option with a good-sized boot. Comfortable for long journeys. Kia
  1. Kia Carens (2017-2018)
o A practical 7-seater MPV with a large boot when the third row is folded down. Known for reliability and good value. o ULEZ-compliant petrol versions are available.
  1. Kia Soul (2017-)
o A quirky, compact model with surprising interior space and a high roofline. Though a 5-seater, it offers a large boot and flexible seating.
  1. Kia Sportage (2017-)
o A compact SUV that feels more like a large hatchback, offering a spacious boot and plenty of interior room. While it's not an MPV, it may be a good alternative for space without being oversized. Dacia
  1. Dacia Jogger (2022-): A versatile 7-seater with a spacious boot, offering great value for
money. Though newer, you might find one close to your budget.
  1. Dacia Lodgy (2017-2022): Practical with 5 or 7 seats and a large boot, though rarer in
the UK. Japanese Brands
  1. Toyota Verso (2017-2018): A reliable 7-seater MPV with good boot space and a
reputation for reliability.
  1. Honda Jazz (2017-): While technically a 5-seater, its "Magic Seats" and flat-folding rear
seats make it a surprisingly spacious option.
  1. Nissan Note (2017-2019): Compact with a spacious boot, though it may be better for 5-
seater configurations. Citroën
  1. Citroën Grand C4 SpaceTourer (formerly Grand C4 Picasso) (2017-): A 7-seater with
excellent boot space, comfortable for long trips, and stylish.
  1. Citroën Berlingo Multispace (2017-): A practical, van-like MPV with a huge boot and
flexible seating, ideal for transporting large items. Renault
  1. Renault Grand Scenic (2017-): A stylish 7-seater with a spacious interior and practical
boot, perfect for families.
  1. Renault Kadjar (2017-): Though an SUV, it's compact with good interior space and boot
room, fitting closer to MPV practicality

We have an old Citroen Picasso with a reversing camera, so certainly possible in your budget. You might need to look at the higher spec models though

WonderingWanda · 12/01/2025 17:44

What about a Volvo. This one is old but low mileage and meets all your other criteria.

As an aside, we have an old 'executive' car (Lexus 430) on an 04 plate with every single gadget you could want (reversing camera, electric everything, even massaging seats 😂). Age isn't such a factor for those things, rather its the spec. Age/mileage shouldn't be a bother as long as services/maintenance are commensurate with the age.

cargurus.co.uk is a useful website

Mudflaps · 12/01/2025 19:20

Look at skoda, great reliability and multiple versions to choose from

Thanks. That’s is so helpful. A Zafira kept coming up so maybe I will avoid. Will have a look at the list.

Thanks. A Grand Picasso seems like a good bet but wasn’t sure if there were any other cars I was missing out on.

I feel quite overwhelmed sifting through all the information online. The monthly repayments are going to be difficult so need the car to last the 5 yrs it will take to repay and be as reliable as possible. I didn’t realise i could get a reversing camera installed. I worry about buying something too old in case it doesn’t last long enough.

Also is a diesel more cost efficient than a Petrol car for an MPV or SUV?
