Hi mumnetters, I'd like to ask is this rereasonable. Had driving licence for 9 years on automatic. 6 years NCB and drive 11 years old ford fiesta. I am 42 years old single/divorced woman, live in London Islington and have one kid. Not employed as I'm full time personal carer for my mother. So here's the problem I never seem to get a car insurance quote at least less than £900. Been trying since the start of December, renewal is due on 1st January. No claims in the past 5 years and no medical issue. Is over £900 reasonable considering my circumstances? How much do you guys pay if your circumstance are similar to mine?

The longer you leave it to buy your renewal the dearer it will be, time is not on your side.

3 weeks before is the optimum apparently.

I imagine it's a lot to do with your postcode, where you keep your car overnight (in a garage or on your own drive is much cheaper than on the road) & your employment.

Form what I've read, being unemployed/receiving benefits is considered quite high risk from an insurance point of view & will bump up your premiums.

Take a look at MSE website and see if there is anything you can do to try and improve your 'insurability' to reduce your quote.

Good luck

Your occupation can affect your quote. Can you review that? Also, comprehensive cover can be cheaper than third party etc and having a named driver.

It's based on algorithms. Stick an older woman with plenty of no claims on as a named driver and it should come down.
