need a new car now had my last one 11 years would off kept but was in an accident.
I took a 2023 cleo out for test drive
good points
seats felt comfortable, fancy inside, passenger side was roomy.
clutch is sensitive but once I got used to it found it good/fun, only drove carefully arround town on test drive.
negatives

the back rear window is small, so I felt there was a less visabilty, there was low sun and I put down the sunvisor down and for whatever reason it slightly impaired the veiw of the rear veiw window.

its one year old something like 19 000 and something miles the car sales people could not tell me any thing about the prev owner.

typical care sales people very lovely and helpful then after it was the talking about all the extras warrantys and paint protectors you can pay for a year.. would rather have heard more about the car but was being polite.

I want a small car but after being in an accident I have been thinking about car safety and cleo scored well for that if there was a crash but I am concerned about the visibility aspect.

looking at other small cars like kia and hyundi but hyundi i10 did not have great safety rating, nether did my last car i suppose but thinking about it more now..

We just got a VW Polo. It's great. Feels good and solid.

I've got a soft-top Fiat 500, it's lovely.

We’ve got a 2020 Hyundai i10 and it’s a comparable driving experience to my old (2006) Clio when that was the same age.
Hyundai’s warranty is also excellent.

Had an AygoX last year. Small but lovely and a 10 year warranty.

I have a Rio. It is fab, with all the bells and whistles, 5* ncap for the advanced driving package, good fuel economy and nice to drive.

You should test drive a Toyota Yaris, very much nicer drive, better visibility and comfort than a Cleo imo.

Honda Jazz. The new ones are absolutely brilliant. I have the Crosstar version, which is a bit fancier looking and higher, but the standard Jazz has additional mod cons like blind spot detectors.

I find the driving position in a Yaris weird. I can either comfortably reach the pedals or the steering wheel.

I'd agree also about the Jazz, had one and it was lovely to drive and very economical on fuel. Also, very roomy for shopping but easy to park.

I've have a 3 year old Renault Clio . I like but I agree on the reversing, it can be difficult and I do rely on the sensors beeping to ensure I'm not hitting something. The boots a good size and It does well on petrol. I would have another one in the future.

Another vote for a Polo.

Another vote for a Toyota Aygo or Yaris. (You can adjust the position of the steering wheel, up or down). Amazing build quality. Test drove a Polo and hated the offset pedals.

Renault Zoe is a small car. Never had any problems.

Frangywangywoowah · 24/12/2024 16:13

Having had VWs for years I made my way over to Peugeot last year. Got a 21 reg 208 and I love it.
Far more solidily built than in the past and lots of nice extras on the allure premium trim. I feel I'm getting a lot more for my money than with VW.

It's a pleasure to drive both on longer distances on motorway and zipping about locally.

If you like the Renault Clio, have a careful look at the Dacia Sandero. It is almost mechanically identical (both cars use the Renault CMF-B platform in differing levels of spec, as does the Nissan Juke) and uses the same drivetrains, but you get a better view out of the rear window. They're also usefully cheaper.

Ignore the Euro NCAP rating for it. They are structurally perfectly sound, but Dacia initially chose not to fit all the advance driver aids like lane-keeping assistance which would have gained the extra stars, because most people switch them off and it inflates the cost by thousands. The version tested by Euro NCAP did not have the advance aids, but they became compulsory on all new cars in April 2024 anyway.

If you buy new it will have the extra tech but not the Euro NCAP points, and you'd probably still get one for less than the price of a one year old Clio.
