Job hunting is so lonely

Hi all,

Just seeking a little virtual comfort please! I left my job as a PA just before lockdown, had a baby, did a course, now looking for a part-time entry level role in my new chosen career while in my mid thirties and having been out of work for six years.

Wow, it’s a lonely place, isn’t it?
I just can’t imagine working at this point, i wonder who is going to want me, my self-esteem has always been quite low with regards to my career but it’s really taking a battering.

It would be nice to hear from anyone also on the job hunt, or who successfully found a job, with any words of encouragement!

My head is spinning from
all of the job posts across ALL of the websites, and daily job recommendations which aren’t even what I’m looking for.

Didn’t want to read and run, but just to say my DS is job hunting (recent uni leaver) so I have seen how soul-destroying it can be. Out of 40 applications, only a few replied and he’s had one interview (too soon to hear whether he’s been successful). It’s tough out there, so don’t let it knock your self-worth.

Years ago I grew to hate my job so much that I left with nothing to go to, but then did a little freelance work and got offered a permanent post within a couple of weeks. Is freelance/temp work something you could do in your new career to help get a foot in the door?

Best of luck. You WILL get something. It’s just a very frustrating waiting game.

Thank you so much for your response. I hope your son finds a job he enjoys soon
