Caring for elderly relatives? Supercarers can help

Do you tip your (paid, agency) carers at Xmas?

Just a straightforward question. I know as an unpaid carer myself there is not a lot of spare cash, but wondered what the usual etiquette is around rewarding/thanking paid agency carers for all the help they give.

My mother-in-law's carers weren't even able to accept a tin of biscuits at Christmas. The only way around it was to drop them at the office so they could be shared out amongst all the employees

My wife has carers. I simply put £10 in an envelope with a Christmas card and handed one to each carer as they were leaving. I wrote "thanks for all you do for us" on the Christmas cards.
Neither of them opened the card in my house but I am sure they will have appreciated it.

We aways gave my mother’s paid carers gifts of chocolates or toiletries.they never mentioned not being able to accept them. When DM was dying we also gave gifts to the night nurses who enabled us to get some sleep.

Yes a small gift and some cash in a card. Not in Uk though.

Thanks everyone. Am not sure what to do as there are about 12 different carers in the team and not all celebrate Christmas in any event. We did some sweets and little things for them on each visit up to and over Christmas, but I just feel I should have done more.

Yes we have PIL’s carers a £10 voucher each after checking with the manager what they can accept. I was going to give more but £10 was the limit.

Definitely give the carers a decent gift ! They are amazing people who deserve to be acknowledged. £50 gift card each is still a lot cheaper than having your loved one in a sterile/ soulless care home …no I am not a carer but I value and care about others who do care . Chocolates and biscuits are so unimaginative and screams lack of thought!

There is no law that sets a £10 limit .As long as the gift has been given by someone with full MC .

I know this… but the manager set the limit so I didn’t want to breach company policy.
