Care hours for severely disabled adult DC

Hi
my severely disabled and SLD DC will be 18 soon and going in to adult social services. DC completely dependent on adult and I’m ft carer. Partner works FT but helps when can. We get 10/week DP respite through from children’s SS. Would someone know examples on how many hours an adult with similar needs could get on DP from social care please? I know it depends on LA. Just wondering in general what to expect. Thanks

DD1 got 56 hours a week - 10 am to 6 pm every day of the week, and two carers for four hours a week, so DH and I could go out. Also, two carers for when I had health appointments. (Care agencies thought it was too stressful for one of their staff to look after DD1 1:1. It was either me plus a care worker for DD1, or if I wasn’t there, they insisted she have 2 care workers) That’s what I wanted. DH did not want carers in the house overnight, for our privacy.

I heard of young people at DD’s specialist college, who got 70 hours a week.

Thanks so much for sharing WeWillGetThereInTheEnd.
Thats sound great, so glad for you. Could I please check whether this is through Adult social care or is it through CHC?

Have meeting with SS and trying to figure out what we should be aiming for realistically. My DC going to Sen school till 19 so doubt we’ll get that many to cover the day anyway. Also we are keen on keeping DP with known carers if that works out with relatively enough hours. DC meant to have CHC assessment as well. Thanks again

Initially, it was from adult social services. When she got NHS CHC funding, they continued to fund it.

@tulips4u

Are you looking at DC remaining in the home or moving into some form of care?

tulips4u · 16/01/2025 22:48

@WeWillGetThereInTheEnd
thanks a lot for clarifying. I didn’t think adult social care would be very different from children’s services in terms of hours. It’s great that they are as probably DP will work best for us. Thanks again… it’s really encouraging

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit
we would prefer home with more support. Thanks

Somebody should come out and do a full assessment of needs and go from there, The hours you get will not be set in stone and will depend on the outcome of the assessment You can self refer via Central Advjce And Duty if your LA has that

Thanks a lot for all your comments. Really helped with prep for meeting.

It will depend on her level of need. But it would be highly unlikely that she will get more than what she currently has unless her needs have changed.
