I am 52 and had a metatarsal fracture on my foot with no accident or trauma. Blood tests have come back normal apart from the Cholesterol which us very high. I was shocked as I have a healthy diet - I don't eat meat smoke or drink. But I have researched that extreme stress over a prolonged period lang cause high cholesterol and stops the blood supply and oxygen from reaching the feat and causing fractures. I have been caring for my father for the past 2 years and could literally feel my body shaking with stress before I broke my foot. Has anyone one else experienced this?

Please try not to add to your stress and worry. Some people just have/get high cholesterol whatever they do. My Mum has high cholesterol and she's eaten sensibly all her life and hasn't been stressed like you. Instead, be grateful they've spotted it and you can now have it treated.

Is it possible you have been rushing around so much because of all you have to do that you may have gone over on your foot without even noticing? I know if I'm stressed I become oblivious to things.

Please stop 'researching'. Instead, talk to your GP about your high cholesterol and, probably most importantly, how you can manage this extreme stress.

Thank you for your advice. Apologies for the shocking spelling as was rushing when typing! I know I should not google it but found this
High levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in older adults are associated with a higher risk of sustaining a fracture than those with lower HDL-C levels

  • Chronic or long-term stress can cause high blood cholesterol, along with other heart disease risks.
  • High levels of cortisol from stress may increase LDL ("bad") cholesterol.
  • Stress encourages the body to produce more energy, leading to the secretion of bad cholesterol.

But that doesn't help you does it? Even if it's proper peer reviewed, evidence based medical information. The stress and high cholesterol still need tackling. Please see your doctor. I can tell you something without citing research. Spending time researching any medical matter is without a doubt going to increase your stress.

Has doc suggested you start on a statin?
