Caring for elderly relatives? Supercarers can help

Mobility help for elderly father - has bluebadge but car broken - anything like motability

My fathers car is old and has broken down again. Dad (80)has many health issues and lives several hours drive from me (and my siblings) and relies on his car to get to hospital (including chemo), shopping and general independance. My mother (similar age) cannot drive. Dad has a blue badge and can only walk very short distances. Independance is of vital importance to them, and they have never asked for help even when perhaps they should!
I am wondering if there are any scheme to help mobilty for the over 65 (motabilty is only available to the under 65s as far as I can tell). Hiring or leasing is not an option for the over 80s even if cost wasnt an issue. Are there any reduced cost taxi schemes for the elderly? I am also concerned about my mother and especially the future. I live too far away to pop in -.
Any ideas or suggestions of where to ask? TIA

do they do ring and ride in his area

A lot of areas have Dial-a-Ride type schemes . I'm not sure exactly haow they work but you could phone and find out. Age Concern would be a good place to start as they could advise you as to what is available for your parents to access.

Also, contact the hospital as they will provide some sort of transport scheme for hospital appts (they often use volunteer drivers who will transport patients)
