Carers assessment

Asking for a friend, does anyone know much about carers assessment?
Person is a carer to 2 adult children with learning disabilities and medical needs.
1 adult has a care package which includes some overnights this has been reviewed and they are being reduced- probably legitimately as their needs have changed. However these obviously also offer a break to my friend.
In addition to the 2 adult children I also feel she has caring responsibilities to her husband as he has medical issues, I'm not sure she recognises she is also his carer.
I'm wondering if it would be worth her getting a carers assessment for herself with the aim of having these nights reinstated?
I'm not sure how it works so let me know if I have it all wrong!

It probably would be worth her getting an assessment although the overnights are unlikely to be reinstated in my, very limited, experience.

Is she willing to engage though. I have a DF who looks after 2 DC with SN plus her DM with Dementia and doesn't trust anyone else to help so as a result, doesn't get any.

She should have been offered a carers assessment when her child's needs were assessed, regardless of wether they are adults.

Her other child would be eligible for an assessment of need under the care act as well.
