Congratulations on the job.
It's a hard job to do both physically and mentally but so worth it.
It's definitely something you can't do as just a 'job' your heart has to be in it.
You learn as you go, just make sure you have a good in-depth induction ( easier said than done ).
Be thick skinned but also empathetic.
Good luck

Home Instead Senior Care are great employers. If you are lucky enough to have a franchise near to you I cannot stress how caring they are of their employees as well as their clients.

I've worked for companies who tender for work from SS and that is a whole different experience.

Definitely try to go for larger companies as generally better pay and staff get treated better. It is physically and mentally draining at the best of times and thick skin is a must. Don’t expect all carers to be caring people either. All that said I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do

I have done care work home and was given in house training I have done personal care before with adults. You just do it, it,s not pleasant but think how much worse for the poeple recieving. In fact it was often during these times where you learnt the most about people.
