Caring for elderly relatives? Supercarers can help

How much will Carers allowance affect tax credits?

As above ^^ my partner works and we receive around £15 a week tax credits based on his earnings plus the child’s disability element of around £64. I am struggling to work around my son who has autism.

Have decided to apply for Carers. We receive low rate mobility and middle rate care for him.

If my application for Carers is successful how will it affect our tax credits, if it all?

Obviously I will ring tax credits and let them if I start receiving it.

We don’t receive any other benefits. Our tax credits hasn’t changed over to UC credit yet.

They will go down a bit because it's classed as taxable income of around £3400 a year.

Also, do tax credits know you're receiving DLA because you should receive a higher rate for this.

Starting to claim carer's allowance will trigger a change to universal credit.

I claimed carers allowance in September and haven’t been changed to UC.

We’ve lost about £30 a week in our tax credits but I have gained the carers allowance and as I’m in Scotland the Scottish government also supplement it with two payments of about £250 a year.

It didn’t trigger uc here either

Arrgh, sorry for the incorrect information, it will only trigger a change to UC if you also claim a top up of income support. Which probably won't be relevant to you with your DP's wages.
