My dad has cancer and has just been discharged from hospital to receive palliative care at home. We have basic equipment but does anyone have any tips or things that would help make life easier.
He has a adjustable bed (standard sheets)
Commode
Overbed table
Sippy cups
Wheelchair

When I was nursing my husband towards the end, an occupational therapist visited and made sure that we had everything we needed. Has anyone arranged for one to visit you?

Have everything you need to keep him clean when he's bed bound. A bowl for warm water, some flannels etc, and nice washing gels etc. And nice soft towels.

Does he have a MacMillan nurse or district nurse visiting? I think it was MacMillan that sent the OT round.

They are coming on Monday, it seems like a very long stretch until then.

How is he feeling now, lucky?

The district (or community in some areas) nurses can come out any time- fewer of them at a weekend but they are there. Have you used them before? It's worth getting in touch if you haven't. I don't know much about MacMillan as I haven't had to use them yet.

So sorry to hear of this OP.
From personal experience having a fan close by can help. Ice too if needed as he might get a dry mouth and it helps to suck on ice cubes.
Wet wipes are handy.

Thanks everyone, the district nurses have been out today so a bit less bewildering. Thanks for the suggestions.
