I need a change in direction! I childmind atm, but my dd will be going to secondary school in September, so within the next few years or so, she'll need me at home less and less. Basically, one of my mindees mums is a nurse in neo-natal and told me today that maybe a nursery nurse would be a nice job for me. I've looked everywhere on the web for some info, but I can't find anything. Anyone know where I should start my search? TIA

Nursery nurses work in Maternity wards, special care nurseries, nursery schools, private and state run nurseries, and reception classes in schools. They can also work as nannies in private homes. The qualification is NNEB, and you need to train at college, if you are not already qualified.
I may be a little out of date, as it is several years since I worked in Maternity Services.
When my boys were in infant school there was a nursery nurse in each classroom. Of course the trend in recent years has been towards classroom assistants and I have no idea what the training or qualification is for that.
I believe jobs and courses are advertised in magazines aimed at nursery nurses such as "Nursery world" etc.

The qualification formerly known as the NNEB is now the CACHE DCE. You can also do an NVQ3 or BTEC National Diploma which are equivalent.

NVQ3s can be done "on the job". If you are a childminder and already hold an NVQ3 CCLD then you're alrady qualified to an appropriate standard. If you don't have an NVQ3 you can start one whilst childminding.
