It took me about 8 weeks, but obviously it was back dated then, I claimed back in April and I had it in June x

A couple of months as per the PP.

It's one of the easier allowances to apply for. It is taxable income hence why it's called an allowance.

Brandnewshit · 04/02/2019 22:04

Does it affect anyone of the benefits the person who is in need of care receives?

endofthelinefinally · 04/02/2019 22:09

Do you mean carers or attendance allowance?
The person who needs care claims the attendance allowance. Which is tax free.
The person doing the caring claims carers allowance for themselves.

Brandnewshit · 04/02/2019 22:24

Yes, I mean the person in receipt of the qualifying benefit either attendance allowance or pip, is that amount affected if someone claims carers allowance for them

endofthelinefinally · 04/02/2019 22:29

I am not an expert but as the carer claims the carers allowance I would assume it would be unrelated to the income of the person claiming attendance allowance.
Presumably the carer has a separate income and tax return?

bluecustard · 04/02/2019 22:30

If someone claims carers allowance for them, the person needing care won't be able to get a severe disability premium on any means-tested benefits they get. If they only get attendance allowance/pip/dla and no means-tested benefits then their benefits won't be affected (as probably in OP's case, if her dd is under 16 and getting DLA).

Hwory · 04/02/2019 22:30

It won’t effect the amount of Aa or Pip however their is components within esa, jsa and hb (severe disability premium) that would be lost reducing their entitlement if CA is claimed.

A benefits check would be best to figure out if claiming CA would be the best option.
