Non driver and car seat - please help

Hi,

Please help - we don't know what car seat to go for. We don't drive (eco-thing) so just want one for taxis/grand parents etc. We were going to go with the maxi-cosi as we are getting an icandy pushchair and they are compatible. However just realised you have to cart a massive base attachment about with you - hardly practical for public transport - you just lose the advantage of the car seat being compatible. So I think we need a seat belt installation only one - which is best? Which? recommend Graco - anyone have any experience? any non drivers out there got any tips for managing this whole scenario?

Kate

the MAxi Cosi cabrio fix can be used without a base- pretty much all of the infant carrier types can be.

Honestly- you don't need a base at all for it.

I would go for the maxi cosy you don't need to use the base if grand parents are going to be taking you child without you they may find the base easier as they wont have to put the seat belt round the seat.

Yes agree with the others - the base is optional. You can definitely fit it just with the seatbelt.

Graco fare very badly in crash tests so I'd avoid like the plague. I'd stick to Britax or Maxi Cosi, well worth the extra money.

Do they really, Trafficcone? I wonder why Which? recommend them. I do know that they tend to be shorter than other car seats (so you have to move your baby to forward facing earlier) and I wouldn't use the carseat which comes with the Century travel system, as it's flimsy and has practically no side impact protection. But the Graco autobaby or whatever it's called seemed fine to me.

If you're on a budget OP, and don't mind the carseat not being compatible with the pushchair, the Mothercare own brand carseats are made by Dorel who also make Maxi Cosi. I had one and it was very sturdy, not that padded, but seemed very safe and lightweight and the sides were nice and deep. DS fitted into it until 18 months. (Also I think the new model has slightly more padding than the one they had 2-3 years ago)

Thanks all - think we will get the maxi-cosi as it will still be compatible with the icandy. Phew!
