Hi

I know this is going to sound really silly, but when you have had your baby and you are taking him/her home from the hospital, does s/he have to be in a car seat or can s/he be in a sling tied to you?

If they do have to be in a car seat, what happens if they cry???? Can you take them out and hold them or do you have to park? Can you give tem a soother or will this stop them being able to breast feed?

(I'm not due till February and here I am already with the PFB questions!)

Trust me, when you've just had a baby, the last thing you want to be doing is going shopping for stuff you need. Make sure you have enough bits to last you a week at least.

Emotionally I was all over the place, I hurt all over, plus the sleep deprevation was kicking in. I wouldn't have been in any fit state to make a rational decision about important stuff like prams - these are expensive so you want to make the right decistion. A friend brought an pram, only to find that the handles were the wrong height and it gave her backache so she had to get another. Also the shop may need to order the items you need.

A good idea is to take someone who's recently had a baby with you, who can give you advise on things you won't have thought of yet.

And finally, congratualtions!!!

If your DH's children were born twenty years ago or so he is probably still thinking in terms of your being in hospital for several days before you bring the baby home. These days if you have an uncomplicated delivery you are likely to be staying in for one night tops, and could very well be home the same day. A lot of the larger items you may need to order several weeks in advance so I wouldn't leave it too long.

And check the carseat is in the car properly before the baby arrives -- I let DH install it both times and both times he did it wrongly (I think new fatherhood does something strange to his brain).
