What to do? Re: Infant carrier going onto Britax TWE.

My 14 month old Ds is Rear facing in the Britax two way elite. We both love this seat so I am planning on putting Dc2 (due in Spetember) in the same seat when he's old/heavy enough.

Bit stuck on what to do until then though?

We are buying a new car which has isofix points but do I spend loads of money on an isofix carseat only to be used until dc2 can go in the TWE, which will be a lot of money OR do I just get a cheap/bog standard infant carrier from mothercare/argos etc until he goes in the TWE?

Obviously I want to go for the safest option but don't want to be paying out double the amount of money for an isofix and TWE if a normal belted infant carrier will be just as good until the TWE iygwim?.

What would you do?

Hi thanks for that.

I am not planning on taking ds out of his TWE for a couple years yet (at least) I'm very happy to keep him in it as long as possible.

I was planning on buying ANOTHER TWE for Dc2. The reason I'm asking about prices is because before the TWE, my ds was in a creatis car seat and his head was poking out of the top at 7 months old (hence buying the TWE to keep him Rear Facing)

If next baby is the same, it just seems like an awful lot of money to waste on an isofix carseat that will only get 7 months use out of it before I have to spend another £200 on a TWE.

Of course if I find an infant carrier that is likely to last longer than 1yr then I could justify spending more to get the isofix base.

Well think I have answered my own question actually.

Off to look at infant carriers! Like the look of the Britax Baby Safe SHR with Isofix base. Wonder if it will be big enough?

graco infant carriers seem huge compared to others but that is just by looking no idea about measurements.

could you not just use your creatis car seat from your ds? an isofix seat is no safer than a belted one if fitted correctly. i had a maxi cosi cabrio belted for ds before i moved him to the twe at 9 months. would have kept him in it longer but didn't see the point as he was staying rf and was happier looking out the window,

Hey,

Great idea nicm except I sold the creatis to a friend and it was involved in a fairly bad accident! (Everyone was fine thank-god) but wouldn't feel safe using it again.

Did have a look in mothercare today and tried Ds in the maxi cosi just to see how much too big he was for it when a shop assistant came running over saying "No, No he Needs to be in a Foward Facing seat now! Here take a look at this one" pointing to a High Backed Booster! (for a 14month old FFS)

I told her to ask for more training and walked out.

oh then no i don't think you should use it! glad everyone is ok. yes have read some stories on here about advice from mothercare! i can't remember but reading on here i think either the maxi cosi or britax were the longest baby carriers.

thisisyesterday · 12/06/2010 21:36

a normal belted infant carrier will be justr as safe... no need to go for an isofix one

i believe the britax one is very good.

thisisyesterday · 12/06/2010 21:37

btw i have read in several places that hte britax baby safe seat is "taller" than the maxi cosi ones.

shufflebum · 15/06/2010 22:14

Britax baby safe is brilliant! It is more upright than the maxicosi so looks less like an infant carrier but it is iyswim. We had the headhugger and newborn padding and then took them out as DS got bigger. You can adjust the head padding height too. DS still fits in his and he is almost 15 months and not small.
( Have just bought Izi Combi X3)

(i'm due number 3 in two weeks)

you may have made your decision already... but my thoughts :

isofix infant seat will be fab in those days after birth of baby as if saves time/ energy of stretching those bl**dy seatbelt straps. with two others to ferry back and forwards, we will need to use the car a lot.

i have compatible britax cozytot infant carrier from last baby and i'm picking up 2nd hand isofix base from local, known mum, to keep cost reasonable

and love britax isofix options for safety and ease of use - just upgraded car to fit all three across back seat (boys in britax forward facing kidfix now) - citroen picasso c4 grand. we will need a new seat for baby from around 9mnths as the next stage seat we had...foam broken and belts stiff and tricky after other two used.

personally found help at mothercare watford really handy. they had other samples to try out the back, so worth asking in your local store. and check price of kiddicare/other companies print off before you go and they will pricematch. (their shop price a lot higher).

good luck.
