Isofix bases vs seatbelts

Hi

DH and I are looking to get a carseat for our new arrival. I'd done some reading and thought the Isofix bases looked like a good idea for added sturdiness, but when we went to look at carseats in a shop, the lady said in her opinion, seatbelts are safer, as in the event of a crash, there is a little more 'give' in them, whereas with the Isofix bases, a crash would jolt the child more. This made sense to us, but I wanted to see what you all thought please.

Thanks.

The complete low-down on Isofix vs. seatbelt. I asked someone who has worked in the industry for over 35 years. He got eager:

There are only a very few people that I would trust completely regarding the safety of my children.

-Adventuredad
-Robert Bell
-Another expert who has 16 years of experience with crashtesting and designing car seats.
-In car Safety Centre (no personal experience, but seem very good at what they are doing)

On the new maxi cosi bases and seats, the new family fix base (which beeps at you to let you know it's fitted correctly) fits both the group 1 pearl and the group 0 seat (which I think is called pebble).
