Hi All

My son is 7 months old on the 26th january and he is too small for his car seat, so i need to purchase a new one!

I have been looking on the internet and most of the car seats are from 9 months to 4 years, are these sort of car seats suitable for my son?

I would be gratefull for any comments!

how big is your son- most stage 0+ carseats are suitable from birth to 13kg (or approx 15 months) as long as his eye level is not above the level of the top of the seat he is safer in the seat he has unless you are going to buy a rear facing car seat for the next stage. What car seat is he in at the moment?

it really depends on his weight-the age range are guidelines only. i wouldn't put him in a ff seat at his age, he'd be too tiny. if you were looking at rf it would be ok to get the seat to age 4 now though. i changed ds at 9 months but if i'd have been getting ff i would have waited to well over 1. www.rearfacing.co.uk

Are you sure he is too big - I don't mean to ask a silly question, but a lot of people think that when a baby's legs reach the edge of the car seat, it's too small. With the rear facing baby seats, you can use them until either they hit the upper weight limit (either 10kg or 13kg depending on what seat you have - it should say on the bottom of it) OR their head becomes level with the top edge of the seat. If you haven't hit either of these yet, it's fine to keep using it and much safer than switching to the next stage seat. (And easier - I don't know of any Group 1 seats which let you carry a sleeping baby out of the car) Don't worry if his legs are dangling over the edge or touching the back seat of the car, that is ok and is not uncomfortable or dangerous for them. agree, at 7 months he is not big enough to go into the next stage seat.

the crash test videos on the rearfacing site will show you why it's best to keep him rearfacing for as long as possible!

and as long as his head isn't sticking over the back of the seat he's fine
