I am stuck can anyone help.. I am moving our 10 month old girl into the next car seat. We have a golf but an old one so it would be fitted with the seat belt.

I have short listed 3 seats but I am unsure which one is best..

Maxi cosi Tobi
Maxi cosi prior xp

or the recaro young expert

has anyone any suggestions.

Unless her eye level is over the back of her infant one keep her in that for mow, rear facing is much safer than forward facing.

CarGirl - I thought for rear facing, it is unsafe as soon as the top of the baby's head pokes out of the seat. I thought the eye level rule applied to forward facing only.

Thank you, for the message CarGirl, she is almost out of the seat so we need the new one now.

All I know about forward facing seats is that the ones with the impact cushions are safer in terms of head/neck injuries than 5 point harnesses, it's to do with the ratio of weight of head to body I think, can't find info at the mo.

Kiddy pro infinity is one of those I think. But you need to see what actually fits best in your car though.

If you ring that retailer they are very very very helpful and may know if it fits your car.

We have looked at the kiddy, but it's not right for us. We have been on all the guides and had a look on Which and been into the shops and the 3 are mentioned are the ones which are right for us.

I wondered if anyone had one of the above and if there child was comfy.

Many Thanks

I can't comment on the Recaro but the Tobi is a much easier fitting seat than the Priori and is a which best buy. It seems a much sturdier seat out of the two maxi Cosi you have mentioned and it fits in a lot of different cars without risk of buckle crunch. What weight is your ds now as she is quite young to be going forward facing?

Is your dd really tall because if she is I'd get the tape measurement and see which has the tallest back. My middle 2 dds were exceptionally tall and they grew out of a car seat and I had to go and replace it!

I think she must be tall as her head is above the top of the seat we have now.

the maxi cosi priori xp was a great seat for us and the seat belt tensioner made it very secure.

I ended up with a britax renaissance because of the dds height (no longer made/sold) the chicco key or keyway or something was very tall too. I wonder if it's worth you looking at the britax elite or traveller plus which are give you a 5 point harness until they are heavier and/or taller otherwise she may grow out of her stage 1 seat at a very young age.

Sorry to hijack but kelly do you stock the Britax Nexus?

Hi nappyaddict yes we do which colour you thing of?

I'm not 100% sure yet. I'm either after the Nexus or the M&P Nipi. I bet you don't stock M&P stuff though? Do you know how many degrees the backrest on the Nexus reclines?

Would the Britax first class plus fit your car? It does rear and forward so you can keep her rear facing for longer. It fits with a seatbelt. Dd grew out of the infant carrier around 9 months and I didn't want her to go forward at that age.

Nappyaddict, Its suitable from birth so 150 degrees. At the mo the nexus includes footmuff and raincover but from January the new range does not include it. We don't stock M & P they have a big store near us so they don't supply any independents near us.

kelly Just wondering, do you know it is actually 150 degrees or are you just presuming it is that cos it is from birth? Cos some buggies suitable from birth are flatter than 150 degrees, for example I think it is the maclaren xlr which is 170 degrees.

sorry for the delay nappyaddict I thought it was what i was previously told re the nexus but I have contacted Britax and they couldn't confirm the exact angle.

Best fit in a Golf is a Britax Hi-Way. It leaves plenty of space in front seat. It's approved rear facing 0-25 kg. Rear facing is 500% compared to forward facing so please try to stay RF at least until age 4.

nappyaddict · 18/12/2009 13:06

Please keep her rear facing for as long as possible www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8gU9zzCGA8

Ideally children should stay rear facing until they are at least 2.6, but really the longer the better. In the UK most 5 point harnesses only go up to 18kg and booster seats only go up to 36kg. In other countries 5 point harnesses go up to 36kg and booster seats go up to 45kg which is obviously much safer and I don't know why we don't stock more of these in the UK. I think in the UK the best weight limit you'll get for a rear facing seat with a 5 point harness is 25kg which will last until approximately 7 years. Here are some to look at and see if they will fit your car:

Britax Nordic Freeway

Britax Two Way Elite

Britax Hiway

Brio Zento

Nordic Secura

Nordic Multitech

Maxi Cosi Mobi

There's a non-isofix one called the Be Safe Izi Kid X1 that goes up to 25kg aswell but I can only find the isofix version which seems to only go up to 18kg.

There's also the Akta Graco Cosmic Comfort S but I heard this one is only up to 25kg if used in the passenger seat. If you use it on the back seats it is only up to 18kg. I don't know if that's true for definite though so would be worth checking out just incase.
