3.5 yr old car seat no frills booster or one with back and sides?

our 3.5 yr old is 17 kilos so can now sit in a booster seat without back, sides etc for less than £20 or is it better to get one that has sides, back etc like;

on e iwth back and sides so there is some protection in the event of a crash.

the high back ones are better. was talking to a car safety guy and he said they shouldn't be allowed to sell the small boosters with no sides as they offer no side protection in an accident. i have the maxi cosi rodi sps and have used it for an 11 yo with the sides on and the back fully extended. hth

Back and sides. DS is nearly 6 (although not much heavier than your DC) and I don't want him being on a booster seat for a while.

DD is 4 and still in her Stage 1 car seat and will be until she doesn't fit

yes, keep him in a 5 point harness as long as possible IMO
he is fine until his eyes are level with the top of the seat if he is in a forward facing group 1 seat

Back and sides much better as you have no side impact protection in the basic boosters. In the case of a front impact the seatbelt can cause a lot of damage to such a young neck and the high backed boosters hold the belt away from the neck.

He needs a high back booster to route the seatbelt correctly. And if you can still get him in the 5 point harness, that is the safest place until he is 19kg/his eyes are level with the top of the seat

Maxi Cosi Rodi (back and sides) is the Which Best Buy for this age group. Got ours for £89 in Halfords last week. Bargain as she will be in it until 12. That is £10 a year.

get the best one that you can aford. we are very happy with the kidfix it can go up to fit a child of 150cm well above the corrent law. It is also isofix so when your child is not in the car its not going to slide around. It is very solid, and has ver good side impact protection. Adult seat belts are designed for people over 150 cm so it makes sence to keep your child in a safty seat as long as possible. Some of the cheaper one have quite a ridge of materal just below the head protection, this is fine when they are small put as they get bigger its in the middle of thier back. The only down side is it is wider at the top so you can only get three aross it you can move one seat forword. I have a citron grand c4 which has 3 adult sized isofix seats in the middle row. we've got one of each..the booster is great for short journeys and v convenient for lending to family when they take ds out somewhere but the back&sides is a million miles better for long journeys and he is clearly a lot more comfortable in it. some of the back and sides ones can be dismantled so you can use just the base as a booster, or the whole thing...might be worth investigating?

u can get something like the britax evolva 1-2-3 which hasa harness uptil 18kg, and then you can remove the harnessand use as a highback booster
