Hi all,

I'm in need of some advice!
I currently have a 2 1/2 year old, who has learnt how to undo his car seat.. Does anyone know of anything i can use to prevent him from being able to press the button and get himself because I'm at my wits end and have no clue how to stop him. I do not need suggestions of 'telling him off' etc as i have tried and this does not work at all. Ive tried putting him in the front with me which stops him from unbuckling his seat HOWEVER, he tries to open the car door (with success btw) as theres no child locks for that door OR he tries to change the gears. Im beyond stressed out with car journeys now. I've looked at various different anti escape things on amazon eg the strap that goes across the shoulder straps but i can't see how this will stop him from pressing the buckle..??

Ive got 6 children all together and the first 5 never ever did this :(

Unfortunately the stiffness of the button is literally set in the standard, so you won't find a seat which is harder to open.

You could try the impact shield seats, like Cybex Pallas. His arms might be literally too short to reach the buckle on these, although the design of them has changed since I bought one.

If this is a no go there are buckle covers sold by the In Car Safety Centre with extremely high duty velcro, which are designed for children with special needs and cannot be opened easily. There is a risk/benefit trade off here, as it could mean that if (God forbid) you're ever in a severe accident a stranger might struggle to rescue him from the seat quickly. For this reason it comes with a belt cutter and a big sign to place on the seat explaining. But this is a rare scenario and of course it's much more dangerous if he can escape from the seat and try to leave the car or interfere with the controls.
