Has anyone found a belted rear facing car seat to go in the middle seat of a Skoda Kodiaq? We’re driving to Disneyland next month and need to have access 1 boot seat and have an adult sat in the middle row too hence wanting to use the middle seat. We have a Britax Maxway Plus and a Axkid Minikid 4 Pro for their everyday seats so I’m not worried about it not lasting long. I have heard the joie steadi is slim? Or maybe the graco extend lx r129? If anyone has one would you mind measuring the bottom part of the seat where I’ve highlighted on the photo in red to see if it would fit? I might be searching for a miracle.

Have you tried your current seats in the middle? We had an axkid and that’s pretty slim. You also need to check the car manual to make sure you’re allowed to put a car seat in the middle.

We can’t have a support leg in the middle. But I have checked and it does allow a belted seat

Joie Steadi R129 and Graco Extend R129 are very similar if not the exact same seat, in case that is helpful.

Have you looked at Halfords Impala?

The other belt fitted ones which don't use a support leg are Joie Every Stage/Graco Slimfit (and the R129 versions of each) and Joie Stages, these are wider, but may not be at the base. Halfords tend to have them all in stock if you wanted to go and look with a tape measure, or try them out. There are a couple of Cozy n Safe seats too which are belt fitted and RF with no support leg, although some of them have the RF mode limited to 13kg.

I did think they were the same but thought maybe one was slightly slimmer.

We have a Joie Stages that I have tried and that didn’t fit. That was my plan for the weekend. Do you know if they let you try them without interfering too much?

I haven’t heard much about cozy n safe seats.. are they as good? It’s for my just turned 1 year old and he’s about 9kg so should be fine.

They're fine. Nothing to write home about, very basic but the quality is alright, and as long as you don't get one which is trying to do too many things, I think they are OK. The Fitzroy (R44) is the one I was thinking of. The inserts are a pain, because they constantly slip around and make it hard to get the harness properly tight, but it's functional and I used it for DS3 when he was about 13m on a trip, because it was £65 which was cheaper than anything else I could get at the time. I will see if I can dig out a picture.

The training of an average Halfords staff member possibly means you'll be better informed... I don't know what their policy is, but I'm betting that if they see you have 2x large ERF seats installed, they would be happier to let you try the seats on your own than risk damaging the current installation and making you angry about it. They will probably want to follow you to the car so you don't drive off with the seat installed but that's about it.

When we did a baby seat + toddler seat + teenager across the back row of our Peugeot 3008, I found it made a difference which side the toddler seat was on because of whether the two buckles were together or not. If you end up with the buckle together with the adult side, you might want to get a buckle guard from amazon (designed for SN adults) which prevents the middle buckle being accidentally opened by blocking it, with a small slit where you can insert e.g. a car key to open the buckle manually.
