Belted rear facing car seat for 21kg?

Does this exist? The situation is that we do not own a car but frequently rent when we go away for the weekend. My son is 21kg and tall at 3 years old.

We have a belted rear facing car seat that we love, but it only goes up to 18kg in rear facing mode. We have tried our son forward facing but it’s both less safe and (the more acute issue) he vomits uncontrollably when facing forward.

Is there a car seat that can rear face, using a seat belt that goes up to a higher weight limit?

thanks in advance!

Look at Axkid seats, they are belted and take up to 36kg

Yes quite a few :)

The Axkid ones as said. Also Britax Max Safe Pro and Safe Way M - these all have a limit of 36kg / 125cm.

Or Avionaut Sky, which is 25kg/125cm (but fits up to about 120cm apparently)

All of those do need tethers which would be a bit of a pain in a rental car, but you'd get quick at doing them with a bit of practice.

The other option might by Tinyseats 2 which is isofix + support leg (no tethers) and folds up which is a bonus, but the weight limit is lower at 23kg/125cm, and it's expensive. It does convert to high back booster though so could last longer overall.

There is also Axkid Minikid Core releasing early next year which is not tethered and will go up to 29kg apparently, but not sure of price.

Thank you so much! I had to look up what a tether is, but that seems fine to me, I think. The main issue with isofix is that we wouldn’t be able to carry the base through airports or in/out of houses easily, but an additional tether seems like it would be reasonably light, if a bit fiddly to set up.

I really appreciate the suggestions and I’m off to google them now!

Yes, Isofix adds a lot of weight. I'm not sure about the weight of the bigger ERF seats in general - possibly something to find out.
