Car Seat and Coat - nursery drop off!

Hi all
My son is just starting nursery as it’s starting to colder and wonder if anyone has any tips if they’re using anything which babies can keep on in the car seat whilst dropping off at nursery? We can of course take his coat on and off when we leave the house and go into nursery, it’s just he’s outside for seconds at each end and getting his coat on takes a while longer than that!
TIA!

Any sort of thin fleece will be fine. Just shove a hat on him and keep a blanket spare and bundle him up when you take him out the car.

a puffy warm coat will never be safe for a car seat

I just dress my daughter normally and assuming we dont have to stand outside for any reason (in which case we wait in the car or put her coat on) she just runs straight inside without any 'outside wear'. I hand her coat and bag to nursery staff so they have it for outside play and thats it. They do tend to have her coat on at pickup time but I just remove it at the car.

Just dress him in normal clothes and take the coat with you in case they go outside?

If you’re really precious about them getting cold in the seconds between car and building - a blanket?

You are overthinking it. They won’t freeze being briefly outdoors with no coat.

I used to just tuck a blanket over them as it was literally seconds from the house to the car and the same again at the other end. Mine had a pramsuit and then, later, coat & wellies they kept at nursery as it saved remembering to take them each time and the hassle on the occasions we forgot them.
You can get star wraps and things though which are designed to attach to the car seat and you can wrap/unwrap them depending on the temperature

Thank you all, that’s really helpful, appreciate it!xx

Fleece or boiled wool are good materials for coats in the car seat because they don't compress. Boiled wool can be expensive but second hand is an option. Then get a waterproof all in one outer shell, to leave at nursery which they can take on and off there.

Or just leave the coat off as said - this is what we did. Or hold the coat around them like a blanket on the way to the car.

It's a common issue with nurseries because staff aren't always aware. There used to be a helpful poster by Besafe which could be printed and placed in the cloakroom area of the nursery, but they don't have it available any more. I wonder if it's worth messaging Good Egg or asking one of the car seat groups on FB if anyone has a useful printable to share - a lot are American and talk about chest clips which is not relevant in the UK.
