Only one lower tether fits. Still safe?

I’ve just fitted the Britax max way pro in my car. I love it but have only managed to get one lower tether fixed to the floor. Is this still safe? The seat feels extremely secure. It’s fitted with a seatbelt and a floor anchor thing.

No, this isn’t safe I’m afraid. Both tethers need to be attached to give the seat stability. If you’re struggling to get the tether under the seat rail, then you could try a butter knife or old bank card to push the tether through. Failing that you can always tether through the passenger seat, although this means that the seat cannot be moved whilst the car seat is installed.
The retailer you bought it from should be able to help you with fitting advice.

No it's not safe. You need to go back to your retailer - don't use the seat when it's not correctly fitted.

What is the problem getting the other tether in place - how have you attached the first one? Is it that the seat rail on the other side is tighter to the floor?

No, not at all.

Yes that’s right. One seat rail is tighter against the floor. I can get some wire under it but not the tether. I’ll need to work at it then. We don’t have a drive planned this week so I’ll look then

Ignore the snarky title - this has some good tips for tethering through tight rails, though article is a bit old so hopefully the links work.

Essentially you need something which is very thin but stiffer than the tether strap, so a bit of stiff card or plastic or wire/metal can work. That then creates either a smooth base to slide the tether through (rather than the rough carpety floor) or you can use the friction of it to push the tether through.

You could also try sliding something like a piece of paper through first, again to make a smooth base, and then use the stiff thin thing as a pusher.

I’ll give it another go tonight then have a glass of wine!

I ended up putting the tethers on the passenger seat. Passenger still has loads of leg room and length of tethers can be adjusted without taking them off if we need to move the seat.

thanks for your help
