Stage 2 comfortable

I've just realised our cheap Argos Harmony car seat is really hard and likely uncomfortable for our 5yo for long journeys. I obviously care about safety too but I'm looking for ISO-fix with a bit of padding that isn't too expensive. Please can you tell me about your car seats? It seems to be hard to get a look at them irl these days with more online purchasing.

Thank you :)

Have a look at the britax kidfix, it's a very highly rated HBB (best option for a 5 year old would still be a rear facing seat though if you'd be open to that?) and has a crotch strap which is great for younger kids like yours.

Do you have a John Lewis, Mamas and Papas or local independent baby shop near you to try them out, and then your 5yo can try them out in person? Some shops might let you try them in the car as well - our local shop let us test out pushchairs in the boot of the car.

One thing which might help with comfort without replacing the seat is a footrest like this. Or there are inflatable options which go in the footwell. Having dangling legs can be really uncomfortable for kids (and adults) and it might help with comfort in longer journeys to have something to rest legs on.

Not sure which exact Harmony seat you have - but I tend to find Cybex or Maxi Cosi boosters seem really comfy and they often have them at decent prices. Britax do some great boosters but their cheaper ones are not well padded (my eldest used to complain his legs would go to sleep).

Joie i-Traver or Joie Halfords Transfix is also worth a look - this is a nice comfy one too. Or the Joie i-Trillo seems to be on offer at the moment. I'm not sure how padded that one is, but perhaps you can find it in a store somewhere to try it out.

The Graco boosters are also worth a look because they are extremely reasonably priced, but I would stick to their R129 ones. The old regulation R44 boosters by Graco tend not to get good safety ratings.
