I'm looking to replace my child's car seat, unsure what to buy! Im thinking a high back booster? He is almost 4. There are just so many options, I don't want to make a mistake. Any advice would be very much appreciated x

maxi cosi titan pro i-size.
My 4 year old fits in it comfortably and then when I'm taking my 9 year old niece in the car I can just pull up the headrest with one hand so easily. She says it's alot comfier than what she's used to.

What seat is he in at the moment, and do you know his height and weight?

Is it being replaced because it's worn out/old, needed by another child, outgrown, any other reason?

Nearly 4 is a bit borderline for a high back booster, so if he can stay in his current seat a bit longer, that might be helpful. OTOH there are seats which start off with a 5 point harness and then convert, but it only makes sense to buy these if he's within the height/weight for the harness mode. For some almost-4yos it's the right time to change to a HBB but most of the time it's beneficial to wait a bit longer if you can.

Thankyou so much for the replies. He's 21kg and 110cm. We've kept him in the Joie 360 spin for as long as we could, the headrest is at its maximum and we really feel now is the time to change. I've purchased the Cybex Solution G ifix R129.

Hi OP,
Unfortunately you must stop using your current car seat straight away as he’s outgrown the seat on weight (18kg).
@BertieBotts is right that under 4 is very early to be considering moving into a HBB. He needs to be mature enough to sit still in the seat and not play with the seat belt.
Is he RF or FF currently? If he’s still RF or if you’re open to RF, there’s lots of 36kg ERF seats that will give another few years before you could consider a HBB. The Axkid Minikid 4 or Movekid have the longest shells and are the most compact. The Britax Safeway M and Max Safe Pro are under £200 and have the same weight limit but have a shorter shell and are a bulkier seat.

I admit I didnt realise he weighed quite so much, he's had quite a growth spurt recently! We haven't been out in the car for a while as we are a one car family and my husband uses it for work, luckily everything I need is local so we walk pretty much everywhere, public transport if needed. We are travelling in a couple of weeks, hence the need for a new seat. I've now purchased the Cybex Solution G ifix R129. He's a good boy and has never shown an interest in fiddling with the seat belt and does sit still. I'm usually sat in the back with him anyway as my teenage daughter likes to sit in the front due to travel sickness.

It's a good seat you've chosen. As you don't use the car too much it makes sense to switch him into that type now you've bought it, given that he's over the max weight for the Joie.

Make sure you read the instructions and thread the seatbelt through the right places and that it's adjusted for his height which will be based on where his shoulders are.

Sometimes you get a better fit with a HBB by removing the car headrest and either turning it backwards or just storing it somewhere (in the house or somewhere like a spare tyre compartment, so it's not loose in the car). Just make sure to replace it if you carry an adult in that seat.
