Nightmare with Cybex Aton B?

Is it just us? I have seen so many great reviews for Cybex Aton BUT we've had ridiculous problems getting it in the car quickly since our grandson was born two weeks ago.
We've tried with and without the base (more faff with the base so went back to seatbelt only). We've tried it in two cars and baby's parents and the potential in-laws have had issues too.
It does fit but it's a nightmre stretching the seatbelt around the back of the seat when putting it into the car. Bringing them home from hospital should have been wonderful - but def wasn't on a freezing windy day while everyone was trying to get the thing fastened in.
I've read the book and I've wtched their hopeless fitting video three times. (Why not show it being fitted in a real car instead of graphics with a woman pointing alongside?
I have been very tempted to buy a Joie which is much less expensive and very lightweight but have read reviews saying it isn't gret for a newborn since there's no insert.
Newsflash - the Cybex Aton isn't great for baby position with newborns either :(

Rant over!!!

I had the Aton 5 which is not dissimilar although is a slightly older model. It does have a bit of a learning curve, DS3 had a much better newborn position in it than DS2 (because I was more experienced with the seat basically) - I think you need to place them slightly higher than you'd think would be right because they tend to slip down a little bit. In these photos DS2 is in the too-big grey sleepsuit, looking very squished and DS3, 3 years later in the blue sleepsuit with a hat and a star toy above him. They were basically the same weight at birth though DS3 was slightly longer.

With the seatbelt stretching - do you have a Ford by any chance with shortish seatbelts? Or is it the clip being stiff on the back? I find the Cybex clips can be a bit stiff like they aren't really designed for regular use without the base, which is annoying. I find Maxi Cosi and Britax the best for non-base fitting (Joie aren't any better).

With the base should be quite simple though, can you say what issues you're having with that one? I did initially find it a bit tricky to locate the click in, but a good tip is just to guide one bar in first and then you can sort of use that as a hinge to push the other bar in until it clicks.

This is a good general guide to fitting an infant carrier, including a short seatbelt trick, though it is not Aton specific they do basically all fit in the same way: s

And one tip when it's windy - put car seat and one person into back of car (nobody strapped in), close door. Then the person in the back can often fit the car seat without getting rained on. It's sometimes easier from the wrong side.

Hi
Thank you so much! Yes, the rear guide is a bit stiff but mainly it was that it is extremely difficult to get the seatbelt around the back after buckling into seat belt.
Didn't occur to us to ignore the instruction on instructional video and put it around the back first and then buckle it - thanks for the video! We will try that today. Fingers crossed :)
No it isn't a Ford - it's a Hyundai and I think other grandparents have a Nissan (although I'm not 100% on their car make.)
Thanks so much again for taking the trouble to send me the info!
