Next stage up for Joie i-spin

Hi, I have the 0-4 year Joie i-spin car seat. I still have the base but is it possible to buy the next stage up seat without replacing the base? I can’t seem to find anything

No, the seat doesn't come off the base for that seat. Has it got muddled with a different seat?

Yes - agree with a previous poster. Joie have the Encore base which takes the i-Harbour spinning seat, which is up to age 4 but it was only released a year or so ago, so I think, maybe unlikely you mean that one OP? Joie i-Spin 360 is one piece and the seat is not meant to come off the base. If it has, then it is broken.

Or they had an older set with the i-Venture or i-Quest, these can go both ways but do not spin.

The next stage after the 0-4 year seats is generally a high backed booster, and they don't need a base, so in any case - you don't need a new base for the next stage Smile The only problem is if your child physically outgrows the 0-4 year stage before they are old enough to go into a high back booster seat using the adult seatbelt. In that case you need an interim solution with a longer 5-point harness time. (These also do not need a separate base, so all good).

Thank you. I have muscle issues so I need to be able to spin the seat and fasten it for him until he can handle the seatbelt himself. I’ll have a look at other brands.

How old/tall/heavy is he currently?

The only spinning high back boosters are the ones which are built into the all-stages type seats, which will be a lot more expensive and you won't be able to fasten the seatbelt with the seat facing the side, anyway.

Most children are able to climb into a non-spin (ie, lower down) seat on their own from around 2 or so, so it might be that you don't need to lift him in once he moves into this kind of seat, even if he can't quite manage to fasten the seatbelt on his own initially.

You can get a rubber square sleeve thing which slips over the seatbelt buckle and holds it up so it doesn't flop around which can make it easier for a child - pick a bright colour like yellow so they can see it, too. Maxi Cosi also make a HBB with a light in it but some reviews suggested this was a bit gimmicky.

He’s only just a bit over 18kg but I struggle to do up his seat belt when we use other booster seats. DS struggles to put on the seatbelt himself. I’ve spoken to John Lewis and Halfords and they’re going to try and show him how to do it in my car from various seats so fingers crossed
