Cybex Solution G I-fix leaning forwards

We’ve just bought a cybex solution G I-fix as my DD is now 106cm and too tall for her joie baby spin 360. It was highly rated on Which and seemed like a good option. I’ve installed it following the instructions (isofix and the adult belt) but I find that the back of the carseat doesn’t stay against the seat when my child leans forward, the whole seat sort of tips forwards at the hinge - I’ve attached a photo so you can see what I mean. Is this a fault with the seat? Any advice appreciated!

That is normal for high back boosters and not a concern - it would actually mean that the seat will move with her a bit if you were to crash.

High back boosters work quite differently from the seats for younger children, and it can take a bit of getting used to but this is all normal and fine. It is meant to have some movement in order to fit with any seat in any car.

When you put it back leaning against the backrest, check there isn't a gap there - if there is, it may help to remove or reverse the adult headrest if this is pushing the seat forwards.

BTW if it is the Joie 360 Spin that you have and not the i-Spin, it is not actually outgrown at 105cm and can continue to be used if she is under 18kg and you prefer that for her (the Cybex HBBs are great so would definitely keep this for when she does outgrow it.)

Thank you, that’s really reassuring! It is quite different to what we’ve been used to.

Thats interesting about the Joie spin, I had understood that children over 105cm needed to move up. I’m a bit torn though as I was planning to pass on the joie seat to a friend with a 15 month old and if I delay she’ll need to buy something else. My DD is 106cm, 16kg and she’ll be 4 in December. Would you keep her in the Joie one for longer or just make the move to the HBB?

Yes I would keep her in the Joie until she reaches 18kg. You'll probably have another 6 months in it, which will get you through the winter as well. It's early to move them before they are four. It is only the i-Spin which has the 105cm limit.

Your friend might be able to keep her LO in the infant carrier? They can often be used longer than 15 months. Or perhaps she has another seat that she can borrow for 6 months and then have the Joie from you.

Thank you for all your advice. I’m thinking of moving her back to the Joie even though it’s letting my friend down a bit (her LO definitely does need to move - her seat is only really for up to 12 months old). I moved my DD to forward facing in the joie spin about 4 months ago as she was complaining of how uncomfortable she was but now I’m worried whether that was the wrong thing to do. Shall I try and move her back to rear facing? I thought I was doing the right thing buying the new seat but now I’m really second guessing myself now

The main difference between them is that the T will expand widthwise as you raise up the headrest, allowing more shoulder room for older children (good for broad-shouldered boys) but will take up more space in the car as a result, meaning you might struggle to fit it next to another seat/another passenger, or next to the door if there isn't enough space there.

Currently the G is much more competitively priced. That's what I'd go for personally unless you think you'll want the expanding sides.
