Swedish plus and isofix

Hey I’m currently lost in the sea of car seats and totally overwhelmed! I’m looking for the next seat for my DS as he’s outgrowing his first. Looking for something Swedish plus, ERF that’s isofix and not a crazy price. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

What's his age, weight and height?

The obvious one jumping to mind is an Axkid One 2 as it's got a 22kg limit and is Isofix. It's not the cheapest seat out there, but the isofix is useful if you're moving the seat between cars a lot.

If you're not actually going to move the seat between cars you'd be better off thinking of something that has a higher weight limit and uses tethers because they're cheaper and you'll ultimately get more use out of it in the long term. Something like the Britax Maxsafe Pro, Axkid Minikid 4, or a BeSafe Stretch would be my pick.

Great advice above about going for a tethered seat rather than Isofix. It will last longer as these seats can go up to 36kg and they’re cheaper, especially if you go for something like the Britax options.
Don’t be scared of tethers, they really are quite simple to fit. Also, you can purchase spare tethers which you can leave in a second vehicle, which makes moving the seat a breeze (I can fit our BeSafe Stretch in less than 3 mins).
If you can buy from an independent retailer, they will give you full support for the lifetime of the seat, including fitting.

I have the BeSafe Stretch for my 4 year old and we love it!

WaltzingWaters · 07/09/2024 19:07

I agree with the above. A tethered seat will last a lot longer (some go up to 36kg) so will last until a safe HBB age.
Use an independent retailer which will give you safe advice and fitting help.
Car Seat Safety UK is a great FB page for advice and buying seats. Give them your child’s weight, height, age, type of car and they’ll tell you the best seat for your budget.

One of the admins on Car Seat Safety UK is a very unpleasant woman who owns Simply Safe so I’d steer clear of that page and her business. There are other extended rear facing Facebook groups like Car Seat Advice UK whose retailers are very decent.

I’d really recommend trying the seats in your car before buying as the fits are slightly different. For your child and the car. We looked at some recently and really liked the BeSafe and Axkid One.

@GodspeedJune I've had a few unpleasant encounters with a very unhelpful admin on that Facebook page too, great to know I'm not the only one who thinks she's not the nicest!

Agree with all the advice above. Would add, if you're wanting a 125cm seat which is isofix and plus tested but a bit cheaper, Joie i-Prodigi is worth a look. Though the leg room is not as good as it is on the Axkid One. Comparison photo here - the Joie is the black seat, Axkid the red one. Joie's headrest doesn't come up as far as the Axkid either.

ISOFIX Swedish plus are pretty much the most expensive ERF seats you can get. A tethered seat is MUCH cheaper and just as safe. We have the axkid Move and are very very happy with it (bought for £180!) don’t be afraid of tethers they are very easy to install x

Join car seat safety Uk on Facebook they have a list of recommended seats based on baby's age , weight safety testing etc . I've learnt so much from them .

Hey everyone thanks so much for all the advice, it’s really helped me sort my head out! Ended up ordering a Britax max safe, probably should have tried some out but if we’re not keen I’m sure one of the grandparents will take it as a back up haha! Time to stop being mard and get used to the belt/ tethers ☺️ x
