Car seat for grandparents car

Grandparents live abroad - we visit them once/twice a year.

We need a car seat for their car - as we visit infrequently I don’t want it to be too expensive, and I suppose one that lasts a long time age wise. DC is 5 months, so if I get a baby one I’ll have to buy a new one next year…

The car does have isofix but to save money on the base I think we will just get a car seat and strap it in.

Any recommendations? Has to be available on Amazon so we can get it delivered to them. Thank you!

Whilst they are in an infant seat I'd just take that with you. Once they outgrow that then something like a joie stages would be a good bet (but I would buy it and travel with it so you have it for other trips too!)

What country are they in? You will likely find it easier to buy one online in their country and get it delivered. The problem with ordering car seats in the UK for delivery abroad is firstly the VAT is discounted in the UK on car seats whereas it's not in most other European countries and also, since Brexit, and then since the regulation change in the EU last year many UK companies won't post car seats to Europe any more.

Oh yes that's another good option - buy it at home and take it with you.

Grandparents here. Joie stages too (isofix) not expensive . He’s very happy with it (birth to now 4).

@welshweasel @BertieBotts when you say to take it with us - I’ve always been concerned about safety of our car seat getting chucked around in the hold of the plane? They say not to get a second hand seat in case it’s been in an accident but surely they get bashed around even more in the baggage? Otherwise yes I’d happily take my main car seat away with me

So long as you package it up properly it will be fine. Wrap in bubble wrap and put in a large box or a car seat bag (can pad it out with towels/clothes too). We used to take our infant seat until it was outgrown, then we had a joie stages. Travelled all over and never had an issue.

If you put it in a cardboard box that seems to be the best protection. But that is why I would look at ordering one over there, I would just do it from a website which is actually EU based, rather than Amazon UK.

I'm happy to have a search around for good options in the relevant country BTW if you're willing to share which one. Smile
