Unused but second hand Isofix base

I have bought a second hand Oyster 3 travel system. I intend to buy a brand new oyster car seat as I am aware you are advised to not use second hand car seats. However the isofix base I have purchased from somebody is unused and still has the sellotape seal around the box.
I am probably overthinking but I believe I don’t need to buy a second Isofix base ?

The base will be absolutely fine, its only the seat itself they advise against

So the base is still part of the car seat and it’s generally not advisable to use a second hand unless you know and trust where it has come from.
That being said, if it’s still in the sealed box then it’s likely to be ok. Just make sure it’s still in date.

Base is fine op, make sure you buy a car seat that fits the base though as they all fit differently 😁

I'd just double check it wasn't the one which was recalled. One of the Oyster car seat + base combos was recalled because it ejected the seat in the Which? crash tests.

Other than this, I wouldn't have a problem buying a seat or base brand new in box. BTW, the advice does apply to bases as much as car seats, it's more that car seats themselves are more likely to have sustained wear and tear, damage, lost parts, worn safety warnings etc whereas the bases tend to stay in the car and don't have as many loose/moving parts to get damaged.

Recall follows car seat detaching from the base and being hurled forward in recent Which? crash tests

@JDH91 Did you get the chance to check if it was the recalled one? It was the base which was at fault rather than the car seat itself.
