Non isofox car seat without belt getting in the way

Please could I have recommendations (if they exist) for a rear facing car seat, suitable for a one year old which has the seat belt at the base. My partners car is too old for isofix and it's a nightmare getting our little one in and out with the red circled seat belt in the way!

There aren't any as without the isofix how would the seatbelt hold the seat in if it didn't go around the seat. It wouldn't be able to be secured.

I think the Britax two way elite might be one that gets round this issue but I think you need tether points in the car.

DD had a Joie Stages as our spare seat and I would get her out from the other side instead of having to lift her over the belt.

Most the extended rear facing seats (up to 25kg) don't need isofix and have very hidden belts

We have an avionaut sky and an axkid minikid. Seatbelts no issue in either!

Hope this helps :)

My Axkids one doesn't have that, wouldn't be able to get to the middle seat if it did!

What car is it? I had a ford focus that was too old to have the isofix brackets installed but still had the mounting holes in the bottom of the seat. You can buy a kit from ford to install the brackets quite simply.

I ended up swapping the car before baby came so never bothered but it seemed easy enough to do. You would need to buy the manufacturer specific bracket though. I'm not sure if other cars have it but you could search 'retrofitting isofix points (your make and model)' to see if that's a possibility?

Axkid Minikid

CatStoleMyChocolate · 10/06/2024 21:46

Axkid Move (the more basic version of the Minikid). The belt basically goes across the seat under their bottom and you use tethers (ours were attached to the rails of the front seat in front) to secure the seat along with a support leg. Takes a bit of getting used to but no belt in the way like the Joie Stages. It’s also an ERF seat up to 25kg/around age 6/7 depending on your child’s size.

CatStoleMyChocolate · 10/06/2024 21:47

Just to add - don’t be put off by tethers. Just buy from a retailer who will fit the seat for you and show you how to do it. And buy a second set of tethers if you expect to move the seat between cars!

Axkid minikid

BertieBotts · 11/06/2024 14:01

The Swedish type ERF seats fon't have the belt in the way.

Britax two way elite isn't made any more but it was one of this type. The current ones are Britax Max Space Pro or Safe Way M, Axkid Minikid/Movekid, Avionaut Sky, or Besafe Stretch.

This is how they look, the belt is much lower down. You don't need specific tether points in the car, they tether around any solid part of the car, usually the rails of the seat in front but there are a few options where that isn't possible.

Be careful with retrofitting isofix; Fords are one of the only make you can do this with. There are "universal kits" for sale on amazon/ebay/temu etc but they are vv dodgy and I wouldn't trust they meet any kind of safety standard.

So refreshing to see so many ERF recommendations! Grin
