Hi!

Can anyone recommend a car seat for a newborn?
I'm looking for something not too heavy and one that can be transported arouns easily (we will be traveling abroad a few times in her first 7/8months).
We also need a car seat that can be used with a seatbelt as we will be using it in taxis.

Maxi cosi cabriofix is the safest budget free option

If you need to use it with the seatbelt, I'd stick with Britax or Maxi Cosi since these are really well designed for seatbelt use. They are also compatible with a lot of different prams/buggies including some of the lightweight ones you might want to use for travel. Most infant carrier type seats have seatbelt fitting option, but I find it is a little bit more fiddly and seems designed for more occasional use (if that's fine for you, then you could also look at Avionaut which are super lightweight).

For Britax there is Baby-Safe Core which is their basic/budget model, or Baby-Safe Pro if you're looking for more features like a deeper recline - all infant carrier type seats are reclined, but this one can recline further than the standard which may be better for the baby's airways for example. This is also compatible with a rotating base, which many people like.

For Maxi Cosi their budget model is the Cabriofix i-size, which is lightweight and has a nice position and good fitting, but it doesn't last as long as the Britax seat as the height limit is only 75cm which is approx 9-10 months. The Britax ones by contrast tend to last over a year, maybe up to 18 months or so. Pebble 360 Pro is their full-featured one which has all the lie flat, rotating base compatability etc and does seem to have nicer padding for small babies. I am not sure how long this one lasts, people did tend to complain about the Pebble 360 for not lasting the full 87cm that it is approved up to.
