Pebble seat on cybex base?!

I have a 3 year old and twins due soon. Our 3 yo will be in a Britax romer and we have a cybex cloud z hand-me-down for twin 1 and need to get a second newborn seat for twin 2.

Weve worked out we can fit another cloud z in, or a maxi cosi pebble. My preference is for the pebble as it’s a bit lighter and a bit narrower. I’d like to have the rotate function for both newborns as it was so useful with our first.

Firstly, does anyone have any feedback on the comfort of pebble compared with cloud z?

Also re bases, does it HAVE to be the familyfix base for pebble or can I use the same base as the cybex cloud z base?

thank you!

The bases are not cross compatible, don't try to attach a seat to another brand's base as it might get stuck. It needs to be the appropriate maxi Cosi base, or you can fit with seatbelt without a base. Maxi Cosi seats are designed well for seatbelt fitting and it's not as fiddly as it is with Cybex.

Would you even be able to rotate the seats with another seat in the middle? Or do you have a bigger car so they won't be three in a row?

The pebble is great for comfort but won't last as long as the Cybex. It has a 75cm limit and is physically smaller.

Oh hang on, if you meant the pebble 360, that does have a longer height limit but it's still physically small. Most people have to stop using it before 12 months.

Thanks for your reply ! Yes, I meant pebble 360. We have a 7 seater car already so would be able to rotate.

Such a shame not to be able to interchange the car seat and base- might just buy another cloud then as have found the base v cheap already!

Make sure you're getting the right cloud to go on the right base in that case. There has been a new one out in the last year or two which uses a different base.

Will you be able to get a buggy etc in the boot if you've got all the seats out? I've got a 7 seater but my 3 kids (also singleton and twins) are in a row as I need the boot space, which means the seats don't rotate.

I have the cloud z and the lie flat option is brilliant. It is very heavy though, I couldn't carry two of them.

We should be able to just put the one seat down in the boot, leaving room for buggy. Buggy is a mountain buggy so the narrowest we could get.. 😂 the poor dog is going to be a bit squashed. He might have to sit in the foot well…

I thought the cloud z was only 4.6kg?

I don't know the actual weight, but I really struggle with it.

If you struggle with the mountain buggy, I found the out n about much better for fitting in the boot. I think it folds better?

BertieBotts · 25/04/2024 18:56

The Cloud T or Z2 (same seat, name was changed to avoid confusion) which came out last year weigh 4.5kg - the previous version Cybex Cloud Z is 4.8kg. The original Cloud (Cloud Q - pre 2020) was 5.6kg so quite a hefty seat.

However, bear in mind a newborn baby weighs 3-4kg and an 8 week old baby weighs 5-6kg. So the weight of the seat gets quite a bit more once you add the baby into it.

I'm not sure also what it's like carrying two at once. I think you wouldn't need to though if they attach to your buggy - you'd only be lifting one at a time?

The lightest seats are the Avionaut ones, which do go on the same adapters as the Maxi Cosi/Cybex.

TwoTimesShoeShop · 26/04/2024 12:12

Mine is the older cloud z.

I think you do often end up carrying both at once, into and out of the house, sometimes into and out of places for groups/ classes/appointments as it feels like extra faff to get the buggy out for a short walk, or one I went to was up stairs with no lift, or often there's steps to negotiate.

BertieBotts · 26/04/2024 12:24

Oh yeah, all good points - see, you need the actual twin mum experience, as I hadn't thought of any of that! I did end up carrying my (one) car seat with two hands at times.

The Avionaut weighs 2.5kg so quite a bit lighter. Whether that makes a difference, again, I don't know. It seems like other basic-ish seats along the lines of Maxi Cosi/Britax weigh somewhere in the region of 3.5kg.

TwoTimesShoeShop · 26/04/2024 13:18

I think a lighter seat really does make a difference. I thought I was being feeble until I lifted a friend's and realised how much lighter it was! It's something that didn't cross my mind to consider as I was just interested in the lie flat bit, but I really wish I had done.

Thanks everyone for your input. I’ve bought another cloud z new and a second hand base , so going to get them all in the car this week and practise swizzling!
