Car seat recommendation for newborn

I have made a previous thread on the subject of driving over an hour with a newborn (likely going to be 5 days old, trip time ranging from 1h to 1h30 max). I have followed up and researched a bit more, but Im still unsure on what car seat to go with.

Maxi-cosi Jade is nice because it’s fully lie flat, but it’s less safe than back facing car seats, which also leaves me anxious. Our midwife also suggested picking a back facing one for safety.

Maxi-cosi 360 pro seems like a nice pick, has a “lie flat” mode. I don’t mind the 360 thing too much, but the non 360 (just called “pebble pro”) seems to not have the same lie flat capabilities, and also last 6 months less.

Am I overthinking? Any other good recommendations or +1s on the pebble pro 360? Its pricey, but I’m willing to buy peace of mind.

I have the Cybex Cloud T seat which has a recline option. The base also swivels. My DD is 9 weeks old and looks very comfy in it.

Overthinking it.

i was really hot on this, i really didn’t need to put as much energy into it as i did. Your baby will be fine.
if you really want you can do a bit of a break on the journey

also if you are looking to buy new check out the doona which I wish I had bought as it makes life up to 0-7m or so a breeeeeeze

Have the Maxi Cosi Pebble 360 and love love it. The lie flat bit is great for car journeys and peace of mind, and you'll love the 360 bit - it was easy to get my tiny baby out of the standard Pebble but now she's double that weight the spin bit is handy.

I had a lie-flat (Jane Matrix) and loved it. It has a rear-facing position as well for when they get bigger, so DD2 is still in it at 15 months. It does take up two seats of the car when flat.

I think there are slightly higher crash risks (though I'm not sure anyone's really quantified these for lie flat seats yet as they're still rare), but you're lowering the positional asphyxiation risk, so you really have to decide what's the most relevant to you. There were various risk factors in play for both my children which meant they had a higher SIDS risk so for me I wanted to reduce the positional asphyxiation risk.

As I need to purchase without knowing whether my baby will have high risk factors, I’m moving a bit blind and just trying to make a safe bet. The Jane does seem like a good option as it transitions into a backward facing one, will consider, thank you!

Thank you for sharing! It does seem like a sensible choice, just need to overcome the 5% side of me that is still clinging to a full lie flat car seat idea.

I do need to hear some “Overthinking it”, thanks :). Even more so because my wife will be in the backseat, and able to check how the baby is doing.

I had a cybex cloud Z, the newborn insert is amazing and pushes their chest up so their head is tilted back a little. I have 3 DC who have used it and not 1 had the head flop. I also routinely did 1.5-2 hr journeys with them from 2 weeks +. I had them in the front so I could keep an eye on them.
