Britax Max Way Plus discontinued?

Does anyone know why the Britax Max Way Plus has been discontinued? (I'm thinking of you @BertieBotts!)

I have this seat and I think it's brilliant. Bought a few years ago and was planning to use it for another few years for DC2 (still in 18kg swivel seat but was going to move her into the max Way plus soon).

The only info I could find is this post about the new lower height restrictions: https://www.carseat.se/2022/10/06/new-terrible-height-restrictions-on-britax-max-way-plus/

New TERRIBLE height restrictions on Britax Max-Way Plus | CarSeat.se

New terrible height restrictions by Britax on models Max-Way Plus and Max-Way. This has been a huge issue in Sweden for the past few months. Apparently not widely discussed in other countries. Britax has informed that top of head support can't be count...

Slightly missing the point but what kid of car seat age is 36kg??? My dd is 44kg as an adult (ok she's very light but still) 25kg already seemed too big to be rear facing, mine were heading into secondary when they reached that

My friends DD is knocking 30kg but not 5yo yet. Some kids are heavier that others 🤷‍♀️. She's neither physically nor emotionally mature enough to sit forward facing. So an up-to 36kg rf seat is perfect for her.

Ah sorry I didn't see the Avionaut Sky Q! That's useful to know, thanks.

The Multi-Tech 3 was discontinued longer ago, but a couple of shops still seem to have a little stock. It's a good option but it hasn't been high up on people's radar because for a while it just wasn't one of the cheaper options.

It uses the same shell as the Evolva seat which is FF only. It has a rear facing option up to 25kg and forward facing with harness up to 18kg or as a booster up to 25kg (but it's heavy as a booster, so not really recommended.)

It's quite open at the base which makes it easy to get DC in and out. It was a popular one for a few years. I think Volvo had their own branded version and it was visible in one of their crash tests. (Actually you can see a load of crash tests for it on youtube).

Children are getting heavier. But honestly I do not think that the 36kg seats are intended to have a 36kg child in them. It's just that they have a weight limit because they are required to have one. Essentially it's a way to say the child's weight doesn't matter, as long as they fit into the height limit.

I don't think it's beside the point, and I completely agree with you. Rear-facing to 36kg is completely unnecessary. Even a child on the 99.6th centile for weight would be 4.5 years old when they reached 25kg and would be 7y1m when they reached 36kg. A child on the 75th centile for weight would be 6y10m when they reached 25kg and would be older than 9 when they reached 36kg. It's just ridiculous.

I think the height limits are more restrictive actually; the R129 seats with height limits of 105cm would be outgrown by a 75th centile child at 3y10m, which makes all the 105cm seats a bit pointless for parents of taller children who want them rear-facing until age 4 or 5. I think those seats are only worth buying if your child is on or below the 25th centile for height, then it would last to 4y9m or longer.

And, more to the point, a seat with a 125cm height limit would be outgrown by height long before the child reached 25kg (assuming child is on similar centiles for height and weight). It's only the shorter and heavier children who would be using the 125cm seats beyond 25kg.
