Travel system help for Honda CR-V

Hello!

I am in my 5th month of pregnancy with my first baby, and currently shopping for a car seat travel system with pram.

It’s all very confusing and getting my head around it is tricky! I have a Honda CR-V 2003 model, everything online says the car has ISOFIX and partner also says it does, is this kind of universal so any ISOFIX car seat would work? I found a site where you put in what car you have and it gives you a selection of car seats that fit your car but this doesn’t list any travel systems unfortunately and doesn’t have some of the brands listed that I’ve seen and liked in shops.

Any kind of help would be appreciated! We just want something simple as a car seat that can be carried and then clunked into wheels ideally. We saw a Graco system today which was great but no clue if it would work with our car and staff couldn’t advise x

It pretty much means universal yes. There are some exceptions, but generally any isofix seat will fit any car with isofix.

If you want to check if you have isofix, feel with your hand in between the backrest and the seat cushion on the two side seats in the back. If you can feel little square metal loops that's isofix. Isofix car seats have clips which lock onto the loops.

With your Graco system you'll have to look and see which car seat it comes with. Graco are usually only compatible with Graco, so there won't be too many. It will probably be their SnugEssentials car seat, but if you have a link or the name of the travel system I can try and find out for sure.

With the first car seat, the carry type that can go onto a pushchair, you normally have the choice whether to strap the car seat into the car using a seatbelt, or buy an isofix base. If you choose to use the base, then it's the base which attaches into the isofix, and the car seat clicks on and off the base which makes it a bit quicker to get in and out of the car.

The only thing that you'd want to check is whether your car has storage boxes under the floor in the back seats - in this case, you can't usually use car seats with a support leg. And the other thing to look at is whether your back seats are very sloped. If they are, you can sometimes find that makes an isofix seat tip back so it ends up very upright. If you do have this issue you could look at the Graco SnugRide base which has different tilt options on it.

If you have a manual for your car, there will be a section for child seats which may be useful.
