FTM & I have a 5MO who is looking snug/tall in her MaxiCosi Tinca.. she is 95th centile so a chunk. Starting to think about next car seat... had decided on Joie 360 as I really wanted the spin function but have read elsewhere the weight limit is only up to 18kg and shes currently creeping up to 9kg already.. Can anyone advise what my most cost effective next step is? I want her to be in the next car seat for as long as possible but not sure if that means I have to give up the 360 spin convenience? Thanks in advance & recommendations appreciated x

Should also say I'd like her to be reward facing for as long as possible.. not sure if I'm asking the earth! X

Maxi Cosi Eco?
That and the Joie are meant to last roughly until they're three and a half/four so I'd find it hard to believe you wouldn't get a good chunk of time from it..
Or there's others that go up to 25kg like the Axkid..

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 16/01/2023 22:13

Are you thinking about a second child before dc1 is 3? If so you'll need 2 rear facing car seats anyway as they'd need them simultaneously. So you could get the 360 to benefit from the spin (and recline which is the bit I loved about spin seat over the axkid) and then when dc2 needs the spin seat get a 25kg seat for dc1 such as the axkid minikid.

Have a look at the Extended Rear Facing Facebook group. There’s plenty of Swedish Plus Tested seats with weight limits of 25kg and some 36kg, which will get you to safe booster seat age. I’d avoid a spin seat: they’re heavy, difficult to spin when baby is in it, and they sit really high so you have to lift baby really high to get them in. Non-spin seats tend to have lower sides so much easier. And if your little one is sitting on 95tb centile, you’re unlikely to reach safe booster age, so you’ll need another seat.

We have the Cosatto all in all Isize rotate. Agree the spin mechanism is tough to do with big ones in (my boy is 18 months old and on the 95th percentile). He is just getting a tad big for rearward facing, legs are pretty scrunched up, but generally I like the seat. Big babies are hard work!

Rowen32 · 16/01/2023 22:31

I don't mind the spin at all, I love it - maybe Maxi Cosi is easier than Joie, they did tell me that in the stop, that it was much easier to use but I love the spin

FamilyAreEverything · 16/01/2023 22:33

Don’t worry about his legs being “scrunched up”. Kids like to sit with their legs folded - it’s more comfortable for them. My tall 5 year old is still
happy RF and he’s never once complained about his legs being uncomfortable.

FamilyAreEverything · 16/01/2023 22:35

Sorry, my post was in response to @rosiebl

Axkid minikid or britax maxway plus - both 25kg rear facing and Swedish plus tested.

Hatscats · 16/01/2023 22:37

Oh and we have a joie spin for grandparents and I don’t really like it! Rather have the minikid anyway!

Mannilea · 16/01/2023 22:42

We have the joie 360 and axkid move
and personally prefer having the 360 for younger children due to recline etc

definitely wouldn’t recommend the move for a child that young I don’t actually no if they can go in it that small ours was got for a 4 year old
my 2 year old has gone in it a couple of times and I don’t like the fact he has quite a lot of space around him compared to the 360

but you may find a 25kg rear facing that has inserts etc I believe the axkid mini kid has a better recline but I didn’t think I would need that due to her being 4 but she still gets head flop which I no isn’t dangerous in this age but does not look comfortable at all luckily she doesn’t sleep
often in the car

Hi OP, as she's on the bigger side I agree that a spinning seat is likely to be less useful to you, unless you think you'll have another child within about 2-3 years - then it can work fine, as you just purchase a larger rear facing seat for the older child when they outgrow the spin seat (about 2.5-3 years for children on high centiles) and the new baby can move into the spin seat.

The Minikid (2), Move and Maxway Plus are not suitable at 5 months. They are more suitable for young toddlers (9-10m+). You would need a larger infant carrier or cheap 18kg seat (e.g. Joie Tilt) to fill the gap until you can use these.

If you're wanting one that you can use immediately and rear faces the longest these are what I'd look at. There are a few more options than there used to be, luckily - it used to be a bit of a "dead zone" between smaller infant carriers and the larger rear facing seats from 9/10m+ but this isn't the case any more :) Unfortunately they are on the pricier side, but compared to buying an 18kg seat + £200 25kg rear facing seat it works out about the same.

Avionaut Sky - cheapest option (£380) , suitable from birth, lasts until approx 120cm

Axkid Minikid 3
Besafe Stretch
Klippan Opti
= All around £450, from 3 months, last vv long (32/36kg or 125cm)

Joie i-Prodigi
Axkid One
= Suitable from 3 months, isofix fitted (rare) but expensive - £5/600

Besafe Stretch is IMO the best but have a look at all of them, there aren't too many.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/01/2023 10:15

Is it that her head is near the top of the seat back? Have you removed all the newborn inserts?

Redjellybeans · 17/01/2023 15:42

Thank you all soooo much for the info... I hadn't heard of lots of these brands/ seats and wouldn't have thought to give some of them a second look due to not having "heard" of them so thank you for opening my mind!!!

We would love if we get the opportunity to have another child then about 3yrs age gap would be ideal but obviously all hypothetical and if the stars align.

@bernadette her head is near the top, her feet overhang.. all inserts are out. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying she's fully out grown it right this minute but honestly she isn't far off and she's soooo heavy to carry in it now.. so wanted to get thinking about the next move especially as some seats are suitable from birth so we could technically use both for a while if the next seat was suitable from her age/weight

Definetly don't worry about the feet. It's all about the amount of head that is over the back of the seat. When she is in it, and clipped in, pull her down so she is right against the crotch strap before you tighten the straps.

BertieBotts · 17/01/2023 16:20

The problem with the Tinca is it's outgrown at 75cm. It's really short, much shorter than the older style infant carriers. It used to be impossible to grow out of them at 4/5 months but with these 75cm limit ones, it's not unusual if the baby is over 90th centile.

Agree it's perfectly fine if her legs are over the end, though :)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/01/2023 16:20

Mad that they advertise it as suitable to one year.
