Car seat for skinny 3 year old

Hi,

DS (3 years 8 months) is fairly small and skinny for his age. We currently have a Joie i-spin 360 in my car and a Cybex Sirona S (I think?) in DH's car. I'm fairly sure he will reach the 105cm height limit of his existing seat before he reaches the 15kg lower weight limit of most group 2/3 seats. I would love another i-size seat for his next one but our budget just can't stretch that far. Am I best going for a group 1/2/3 seat to solve the problem of him being in between sizes? Appreciate we don't need to replace his existing seats just yet but would like to be prepared for when we do!

Thank you!

The problem with the 123 seats is that the harnessed part is just the same height as the seats you have so you don't gain anything height wise.

You need something that goes up to 125cm in height, for i-size seats, or for the R44 equivalent it's something covering both Group 1 and 2 in harnessed mode.

So budget friendly options for rear facing you have Axkid Move or Britax Max Way or Britax Two Way Elite. Or for forward facing you could look at Joie Bold, Cozy n Safe Excalibur/Hudson or BabyAuto Dupla.

I'd wait until the last possible minute though, how tall is he now? They grow in height really slowly after age 2, so you might get him through to the minimum 15kg weight and an age that he's mature enough for a booster anyway.

@BertieBotts thank you very much for your reply, it's very helpful! I actually measured and weighed him yesterday and he's 95cm and 13kg so we've got a lot longer in his current seats than I thought! Will bear your suggestions in mind though for when we do need them.

Oh you probably won't need them in that case 🙂 I expect you've got a good couple more years use left out of the two seats you already have. By which point most people are happy to change to a booster seat.
