Extra car seat for almost 4 year old

We need an extra seat due to nursery run logistics from mid September for DD1, who will turn 4 a month after the new arrangement starts.

She’s currently in an Axkid Minikid, which is great, but an extra one would be expensive. I’m not sure whether she really needs another ERF seat at this stage or whether I should look at the next stage up. Obviously I want her to be safe but I don’t want to buy a very expensive seat that will only get a few months use. She’s not big for her age though- between 9th and 25th centile- I really need to weigh her! Height is about 96cm I think although should check that too as she’s growing quite a lot at the mo.

It’s slightly complicated by the fact that DD2 is still in her infant seat, but is a lot bigger than DD1 so I imagine it won’t be too long until we potentially need to buy 2 new ERF seats for her too- it’d be a lot simpler if we could use DD1’s old Minikid for her.

The new seat(s) would need to fit in DH’s car which is a mark 7 Golf GTD. The Minikid does go in it ok, but only behind the passenger side - if we had both girls in that seat in his car then he wouldn’t have enough legroom.

Hope all the above makes sense - I find it all
so confusing and it’s ages since I last did car seat research. And I will weigh DD1 tomorrow and add the info!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Maybe a 123 seat would be a good choice for DD1? They are harnessed forward facing up to 18kg (she'll likely be under this) and then turn into a booster long term. There are a lot of flimsy ones on the market but the Britax Evolva/Advansafix and the Recaro Young Sport Hero/Tian Elite and GB Everna-fix all get good crash test results compared to others in the same class. (Advansafix is the best, if you have top tether)

Or a cheaper ERF - Britax Max Way is currently on offer for £180 and that's a more compact option than Minikid.

Or the even cheaper belt fitted 18kg ERF seats - Joie Steadi, Joie Stages, Graco Enhance?

@BertieBotts thank you so much for replying and sorry it’s taken me ages to come back! I’m having a look at your very useful suggestions - interesting that the Max Way is more compact.
