Is a backless booster safer than a Trunki seat?

For a 130cm 8 year old on holiday?

We used a trunki on holidays, or on occasions where keeping hold of the thing afterwards was needed.
We used a hbb in the permanent car, moving onto a booster when the kids outgrew the hbb, but didnt fit the adult carseat/belt.
I wouldn't have used the trunki as the permanent booster, mainly due to the knocks it would have got in its previous existence as an "out and about seat".

Or a HiFold by MiFold? That's got some side impact protection even if it is £££

This is for holiday use as mentioned in the OP... Its safety info I'm after...

They are pretty much the same. What are you thinking the backless booster would have that Trunki doesn't? Trunki is just a backless booster that converts to a backpack.

BertieBotts · 05/02/2022 08:32

The HiFold is pretty crap in the crash tests. Not really better than a backless one. Chicco Fold & Go is the best of the portable ones or you could get something cheap like Joie Trillo, Britax Adventure.

They are much of a muchness really. The 'arms' wouldn't be as robust in the trunki though. I have both and as the kids have gotten older I've taken the booster in preference as it goes free in the plane hold and a normal backpack is more practical for them when out and about on holiday

Thanks for your thoughts both.

@BertieBotts any thoughts on whether the Chicco seat is as safe as say a Trillo?

It doesn't get as good a score on ADAC, but you will always have some kind of compromise when you get a seat that is designed to fold up. So it depends what you want to prioritise.

HolidayMiracle · 06/02/2022 14:57

Thanks @BertieBotts I guess the problem is I've never been happy to compromise on car seats, I've always kept the kids in the safest seat but now I have two kids, one is disabled and requires masses of luggage and carrying huge unwieldy car seats through the airport is a pain in the arse!
