Joie 360 0-1 in a smaller car

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 02/01/2022 10:46

Does anyone have the Joie 360 for group 0-1 in a smaller hatchback? We’re looking to get this seat for DD2 now that she’s outgrowing her infant seat.

DH has a Mazda 3
I have a Chevrolet Cruze
DM (who does our childcare) has an Astra

DM’s car is probably the smallest inside but DH’s car isn’t massive either.

Any reviews for the seat would be appreciated too. Smile

I had it in a Peugeot 207 with no issues. Absolutely the best decision we made to get it - everyone who saw it commented on what a good idea it was. We used it from birth until our daughter was 3. Spinning car seat = game changer.

That’s great to know! Do you have to move the front seat all the way forward for it to fit?

I had this seat in a VW Up, and did have to move the front seat all the way forward to fit it in.

We used the Joie 360 in a Skoda Yeti and a Peugeot 308 and it has been in DF's Mazda 3 with no problems at all. In no car has it been necessary to move the front seat forward. The Mazda 3 also has the easiest access to the Isofix anchors of any car I've used. The 360 is a great seat, we've loved it and will be sad to see it go in the next couple of months as it's outgrown by DS2.

That’s quite a small hatchback isn’t it?

Thank you! That’s really helpful. My car is bigger than DH’s so it should definitely fit in mine.

One quick point that you've probably already got covered, but remember that the 360 has a supporting leg so if there's underfloor storage (more common in MPVs) you'd need to check for compatibility (i.e. can you use a properly tested filler block).

I think that’s probably not an issue. We all have hatchbacks that don’t have under seat storage. I’ve found a website that says which cars are compatible and it seems like all three are.

In the 207 I had it behind the drivers seat and still had plenty of legroom, even rear facing (I'm 5'4")

BertieBotts · 08/01/2022 08:29

We had it in a Suzuki Swift. It takes up less space than an infant carrier. Only complaint is that there is not much leg room rear facing as the child grows. If you want to maximise rear facing a 25kg limit seat (like Axkid Move) can be better. They have better leg room for the child and don't take up as much space as the spin seats.

Mizydoscape · 08/01/2022 09:00

I've got one in a Citroen c1 right now. That's a tiny car. The passenger seat does need to be forward a little bit but not all the way, there's still room in the front.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/01/2022 10:39

Thank you both!

The reason we’re looking at rotating ones it because DD2 is quite heavy for my DM to get in and out of the car and there are some mobility issues so not having to strap her in at an angle would be best. Her car is probably the smallest of the three so need to check it will fit.

The spin seats are quite high up so not the easiest to lift them in and out and I did used to bang DS's head on the ceiling a fair bit just as a warning!

BertieBotts · 08/01/2022 10:47

There is maxi Cosi axiss as well, which is more compact, but that is no good if she's still little as it is only forward facing.

Do you mean lift the seat in or the child in?

She’s 15mo and I would like to keep her rear facing as long as possible. We have loads of forward facing seats from DD1 which is frustrating.

If your child is above the 50th percentile then it will not last long as they have a 18kg weight limit.
If the child is heavy the spin can be hard work.
25kg rear facing seats are better value for money, many you can buy extra teathers to make moving between cars quicker. The spin seats are heavy to move regularly.
You can buy one isofix seat which goes to 23kg or 125cm which ever is hit first the Axkid ONE but it's expensive but will last longer than the 360 when you would have to buy another seat before a high back booster seat was safe. Belted seats are just as safe if done correctly. Axkid, britax do 25kg seats Axkid have a sale on a couple currently.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/01/2022 11:09

We’re planning on buying 3 seats - one for each car - to avoid taking them in and out and potentially not having the seat in the right place for DD.

They’re all so expensive! 😫

DD2 is in the right size clothing for her age at the moment but, if she’s anything like her sister, she’ll shoot up and always be taller than average. I don’t want her to outgrow it in a few years.

Lavender2021 · 08/01/2022 12:10

Three 25kg would save you money in the long run to keep your DD rear facing for the longest time. Some independent car seat specialist might give you a discount if buying three so worth asking and they will also try them in the car for you to see if they will fit.

Lavender2021 · 08/01/2022 12:12

Extended rear facing Facebook group is good for finding someone that might be local to help you.

We use it in a fiesta, not sure how that compares with the cars mentioned, I'm not great with cars! But it's fine. We actually had 2 seats in it at once, so one in each of the back seats for my (at the time) 1 and 3 year olds.
The front seat didn't need to be all the way forward although it's not far off as I'm only 5ft2. We couldn't spin both seats at once though because the middle seat isn't wide enough, but that was never a problem, just spin, get child out, spin back most of the way but not locked back in position so it was easy to spin round again to put child back in later. Then same on the other side for the other child!
My parents also have a similar seat made by mountain buggy which spins and use it in their mini and they have no problems with that either.

Justbecause88 · 08/01/2022 17:17

I have a similar seat (different brand), absolutely loved it but have had to recently move DS at 27 months as he's outgrowing it. He's not at height or weight limits yet but getting there was looking quite squashed, he's sat between 91st and 75th centile in weight and height. Some kids will easily last till 4+ in these seats so would be a good Investment if she's lower on the centiles. If higher maybe look at a different seat.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/01/2022 17:25

She was 8lb 2oz at birth and her legs were 98th percentile… Confused

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 08/01/2022 18:23

It's really high to lift the child in. The seat is a pain in the arse to move too but not an issue if you don't do it often.

DS2 is 91st - 98th centile and has just hit 17.7kg so has outgrown the Joie spin at 3y 4m.
