Maxi cosi coral or cybex cloud z

Narrowed my search down to both of these car seats, both with a spin base , the cybex has the pro of reclining so I suppose less of a rush to move them out of it when you bring them in or pop in the shop but it is pretty heavy and the coral has the pro of being able to remove the super light weight insert so easy to bring in and out of the car/house.

I just can't decide which is more useful to have ?

Any thoughts on either or both?

The weight of the child seat is pretty quickly outweighed by the weight of the child, although there is a hefty difference between these two. Nearly 5kg for the Cloud vs 1.7kg for the insert part of the Coral (but the full seat, which you need to use if you want to put it onto a buggy, weighs 6.6kg).

But OTOH the Coral 360 is the only infant seat where the rotation on the base actually makes sense IMO!

You don't really need a rotating base for an infant seat in general. I think it could be really useful with the Coral because the main heavy part of the seat stays in the car. The rotation is nice for the next stage, but bear in mind you can get rotating toddler seats with base built in for less than the cost of the rotating toddler seat + base.

The Coral 360 does have the lower weight/height limit like the normal coral - 75cm / 12kg. This will probably last an average sized child until about 9/10 months, whereas the Cybex Cloud is a whopper of a seat with an 87cm height limit and will likely last you until 18-24 months or so. You probably won't want to use it that long, but if you did need to, you have the option at least.

Cybex definitely. Not sure if I’m doing it wrong, but I use the rotating base all the time! It’s the most useful feature and the isobase lasts for the next size up. Great for putting on the pram too as you can recline fully so they can sleep. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t use the swivel for infants as the poster above says as it’s so much easier. Now she is heavier, I tend to keep the seat in the car, so it’s great to swivel her in and out, easier to pick her up. Still use the pram attachment for supermarket trips, or going out for dinner and then getting a cab home.

Fair enough :o I just moved to the next seat when I got fed up of carrying it around (and DS was too big anyway!)

We went to look at the Cloud Z today. The advisor in John Lewis said that it’s the longest lasting infant seat, but that the rotation doesn’t work as well when you go to the next size up - it’s the same base but the seat is angled differently, so you have to put your hand through the seat hole to rotate it and push against the child’s weight, and he said it was awkward and difficult so he recommended the Maxicosi 360 one instead…

I do love the cloud Z, though! We were going to buy it today but we’ve put off the decision for a bit Grin

Thanks everyone !
Went for the cybex cloud z , I like the lie flat position if I have to pop into the shops quickly over having to carry around the insert of the coral (even with the strap you can buy it still seems would be a bit difficult ) and also because of the weight /height limit , we are expecting baby to be longer than average and because my toddler is in a seat up to 4 years old we would like new baby to get a least a good year /slightly longer out of this seat before we move toddler out of her seat into something bigger.

I’m not the original poster, but I have the cloud z and I love it! When my baby was small I would use it on the pram all the time if I was going shopping etc, as he could lie flat and I knew he was safe. Saves having to wake him up to put him in the pram! He’s 10 months old now & I don’t use it on the pram as often unless I’m popping in somewhere quickly and don’t want to disturb him.
The rotating function is great. Makes it so easy to get him in/ out of the car. We have a non rotating one in my husbands car and it’s such a faff trying to get him in, especially when he doesn’t want to be in the car!
The only negative I would say is that it’s a heavy car seat. Once he started piling on the weight, I found it difficult to carry. I would 100% recommend it though & will definitely be using it again for any future babies.
Hope that helps Smile

@Arthurbear0306 thank you 😊

We chose a Cybex (the slightly cheaper one that doesn't recline) because of the bigger height limit. We need to fit my mum in the middle seat so wanted to use a seat that can easily be removed from the car for as long as possible. My baby is tiny so she'll probably be in it for 2 years. I don't see the need for a rotating base as most of the time we take her in and out of the seat in the house. It is heavy to carry so if carrying it more than the distance from the drive to the house I clip it to the pram and wheel it.

sciencepotato · 05/11/2022 04:19

Hey @Arthurbear0306 ! I'm currently considering getting a cybex too but the weight of the seat is what puts me off it. How did you manage to carry it around and for how long (when not clipping onto pram)?

Beachs · 05/11/2022 08:21

Heres my honest opinion after 5 months, I Love the car seat to go on the pram and laying flat but my little one is only 12lb and god it's heavy and awkward for me my partner doesn't find it so bad. One thing I definitely say though don't bother with the isofix it's a pain in the arse, I can't get my baby in it without her waking up due to the way it clips in and it always twists if you don't get it right first time (big pain in the arse) I have a big car and the person in the passenger seat has no leg room because of the isofix. I much prefer just strapping it in with the seat belt.
Maxi cosi coral in a way I wish I'd bought but after seeing the way maxi cosi sent me a (then 3 in total) new mattresses for my next to me with dirty footprints all over in any random box they could find and not wrapped in anything. I question how clean their new stuff is.
