Infant carrier safety

My son is 8 months old and still in his infant carrier. He’s still got the newborn insert in and the foam wedge. He’s never actually been measured and the last time he was properly weighed was at his 8 week injections but last time I tried to weigh him at home he was 18lbs (but that was using normal adult scales). Should I have taken out the newborn insert or the wedge out by now? And are they supposed to come out together or at different times? Height wise I know he looks ok in there.

He wasn’t going out in the car in the seat in either of the pictures, one is to just show his size the other was just a picture when it was on the pushchair frame (just in case anyone comes to tell me about the straps and the crotch pad being missing on one photo 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I'd take them out - his head is over the top of the insert so it's not really adding anything and if anything probably gets in the way now.

Check the manual, but for ours the straps needed to come out either level with or just over the shoulder. Easier to check in real lift then picture, next time he's in it look to see if the strap has to go upwards from were it comes out of the seat to get over his shoulder. If it does it might be time to remove the insert.

Yes the wedge needs to come out now he's 8 months I'd say. Also try the straps on the highest point now. If they seem to big then lower them again.

This is incorrect.

In a rear facing seat, the straps must start at or below the shoulders. When forward facing, the straps should start at or above the shoulders.

Thank you all, I'll try him without the wedge/insert and check the straps. The manual that come with it is probably the least informative thing I've ever read 🤦🏻‍♀️ but it wasn't until I joined a Facebook car seat group I realise that these seats last a lot longer than people think
